Description
The Vice President, Biological Sciences is responsible for overseeing all biological and pharmacological research and development activities, driving innovative projects, and ensuring the highest standards of scientific excellence. This leadership role is pivotal in shaping and driving the scientific direction of our research programs, overseeing a team of skilled scientists, and advancing our pipeline of therapeutic candidates. The successful candidate will have a clear track record of applying deep understanding of cancer biology and biological sciences to discovering and advancing molecules to IND and optimal clinical development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:​​​
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of scientists and researchers in the Biology and Pharmacology department
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment that encourages creativity and scientific excellence
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the department, aligning with the company’s overall goals and objectives
Research and Development:
  • Oversee all biological and pharmacological research projects, ensuring they are conducted with scientific rigor and integrity
  • Identify and prioritize new research opportunities and projects that align with the company’s mission
  • Drive the development and validation of new biological assays, technologies, and products
  • In addition to providing strategic plans, actively contribute to the progression of research programs
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Chemistry, Non-Clinical Development, CMC, Clinical, and G&A to ensure cohesive project development and execution
  • Communicate research findings and progress to senior management, stakeholders, and external partners
  • Represent the company at scientific conferences, industry events, and in publications
Resource Management:
  • Create and manage the department’s budget, resources, and equipment effectively

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Proven track record of managing and leading small-molecule oncology projects from discovery through IND
  • Strong knowledge of current trends and advancements in biological sciences and biotechnology
  • Strong expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, and related disciplines
  • Extensive working knowledge of key components of drug discovery, such as drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, toxicology, and structural biology
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and compliance in the biotech industry
  • Experience in the fast-paced environment fostered by small biotech preferred​​​​​​

The expected annual compensation range for this role, based on experience, is $265,000-$305,000.
