SUMMARY
The Knowledge and Insights Center (KIC) equips social sector professionals with research and resources to stay current on trends, implement evidence-informed practices, and advance organizational excellence. Services include a digital resource library, premium databases, personalized research support, and on-demand virtual learning lessons.

The Knowledge and Research Specialist conducts secondary research, curates resources, and manages knowledge assets on topics relevant to Social Current’s six impact areas. The position supports innovation and practice excellence by finding, organizing, and disseminating insightful, synthesized information to the network and partners. This principal role is centered in "formalized curiosity:" inquisitiveness and discovery, but with clear and defined objectives that help the Social Current network to gain new understanding of complex issues, find answers to their questions, and inform potential solutions to problems that hinder innovation and impact. 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfill research requests and compile bibliographies and literature reviews, synthesizing and analyzing information as needed, within scope, budget, and deadlines.
  • Stay updated on sector trends and collaborate with experts to identify priority topics for curation.
  • Assess needs and evaluate research and content sources to improve resource library collections.
  • Use AI tools for information searches, syntheses, personalized recommendations, and proper citation.
  • Systematically collect, curate, and catalog information assets in KIC databases and content repositories, ensuring proper lifecycle management. 
  • Organize KIC databases and repositories, applying best practices in taxonomy management for discoverability and findability by users.
  • Contribute to research and knowledge offerings that generate revenue, like webinars, publications, and learning community lessons and courses.
  • Assist with communications about KIC services through newsletters, presentations, and other multimedia.
  • Promote self-service options by designing instructional materials and guides for KIC users.
  • Project manage resource library improvement projects.
  • Participate in cross-departmental knowledge management initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Skilled in secondary research and information synthesis.
  • Understanding of policy and practice issues relevant to the social sector.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with subject matter experts that include the capture and utilization of tacit knowledge.
  • Competent in cataloging, developing content collections, and managing database tools and settings.
  • Proficient in knowledge and content management tools, including Microsoft 365 apps (particularly SharePoint), Salesforce, EBSCOhost, and various research discovery and organization tools.
  • Experience in designing and deploying profitable knowledge products.
  • Ability to convey dense information clearly and concisely across various formats.
  • Strong writing skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Effective in a virtual workplace, managing time and priorities well.
  • Excellent situational awareness and communication skills.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE​​​​​

Education:

Preferred: Master’s degree in library science, knowledge management, social services/nonprofit management, public administration, social work, public policy, or other related field.

Job-related Experience:

  • Minimum of five years professional experience in a secondary research or topic curation/synthesis role, with preferred familiarity of Social Current impact area topics and issues, or combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years professional experience in a library or knowledge management setting (preferably a special or academic library), utilizing library or content management systems.

Travel Expectations:
Travel to and attend in-person staff meetings/events a minimum of one time annually.


Location: 
This position is a fully remote role.

Salary and Benefits: 

This position will offer an annual salary based on standard work hours of 35 hours per week. The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $63,700. Social Current offers a generous paid time off plan (PTO); medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits; and a 401(k)-retirement plan.
