Compensation: $17.28 - $17.74 /hr
Office Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm

Position Summary
The Community Integration Instructor will provide direct instruction work with a group of participants in a classroom, community, and a volunteer/work setting to help prepare them for community integration and work skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with Program participants to integrate them into the surrounding communities while enhancing their quality of life. Play an integral part in participant community integration including integrating participants with a 1:3 ratio in person centered community activities – exploring community resources based on participant choice, job exploring, productive learning activities as indicated in curriculum and managing contacts to cultivate, grow and maintain each relationship. Healthy lifestyle will be supported by a community agency partnership, once a month in house – once a month in the community. Will assist participants to become self-advocates’ through community resources and assist participants to become independent through self-determination.
  • Will partake in program activities including: implementation of curriculum during daily lessons, coordinate and establish person centered community activities with support and guidance of IP Lead Community Integration Instructor and Program & Case Manager or program implementation, coordinate with case management staff and direct staff to help develop participant’s program and employment goals and attend participants annual and semi-annual meetings to discuss participants development and growth.
  • Use public transportation or staff vehicles to transport participants to community activities and events. Maintain vehicle logs and regular maintenance checks reporting issues immediately and following through appropriate services.
  • Maintain participant documentation as directed by Program & Case Manager to include case notes and individual progress notes.
  • Will provide supervision, training, and evaluation of program participants assigned to classroom and community-based activities. Will teach new skills identified in participant’s IPP or Goal Plan such as: self-help, communication, vocational, pre-employment, cognitive skills, social emotional skills, and identifying important community resources. Assist in development of motivational techniques and improved work skills for participants.
  • Serve as a role model for appropriate social interaction.
 
Other Duties
  • Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program.  Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required for this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist participants as needed with personal hygiene including toileting, illness, and incidents of incontinence.
  • Attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.

Qualifications:
 
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: One (1) year working with individual’s with special needs.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients to provide direction and understand their needs.
  • Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills.
  • Patience and compassion to work with individuals with a variety of special needs.
  • Ability and willingness to drive your own vehicle.
  • Ability to learn and identify Whittier community sites/landmarks.
 
Requirements
  • Pass a DOJ/FBI background investigation.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test and every three (3) years thereafter.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record. 
  • Pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Obtain NCI, Medication Administration, and First Aid and CPR certification within the first 3 months of employment and maintain as required.
 
Work Environment
 This is a program for adults who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Employee may encounter consumers who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner.  Work will be performed in a shared office and at multiple community and volunteer sites.  Office is located in a building with climate-controlled temperature.  Will use own car, ECF vehicle, or public transportation to perform duties.  May encounter inclement weather. This is a community-based program. All duties will be performed in the community and natural resources (library, workshop seminars etc).

  • Mobility to work in an office setting or in the community using mobile devices.
  • Require the use of hands to produce records and/or documentation in manual or electronic format.
  • Vision to read printed materials and computer screen.

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Required to travel to various sites within Los Angeles County.
  • Ability to implement NCI, First Aid, and CPR.
  • Ability to stand for most of the work shift and lift 20lbs unassisted.
Pay Range
$17.28   Hourly to $17.74   Hourly
