Manager, Food Programs (FULL-TIME)
The Manager, Food Programs is a key position at Food for HOPE, a part of The CARE Center of New Jersey. This individual will lead the organization in its mission to provide integrative solutions for food insecurity. The role is responsible for implementing strategies to improve program efficiency, and overseeing all programs, including the food pantry, teaching kitchen, teaching garden, farm-to-table experience, educational services, and strategic partnerships with restaurants and culinary institutes. Additionally, the Manager, Food Programs will manage the mobile food delivery program and on-premises meal fellowship program for the elderly, disabled, and homebound.

The Manager, Food Programs’ primary focus is to ensure the effective delivery and expansion of Food for HOPE's services. This is achieved by providing strategic leadership, operational management, community engagement, and fundraising efforts. The role brings essential support and resources to individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Essential Job Responsibilities 

Strategic Leadership & Vision:

  • Develops and articulates a clear strategic vision for Food for HOPE, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals.

  • Drives strategic initiatives and long-term planning efforts to advance the organization’s objectives and respond to emerging needs and opportunities.

  • Fosters a collaborative and innovative organizational culture, encouraging team members and stakeholders to contribute ideas and solutions.

  • Monitors industry trends, community needs, and best practices to inform strategic decision-making and enhance program effectiveness.

  • Leads efforts to build and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including community organizations, government entities, and corporate partners.

Operational Management:

  • Leads the organization by providing day-to-day operational oversight of all programs, ensuring they run smoothly and effectively.

  • Oversee the daily operations of the food program, including food acquisition, storage, distribution, and meal services.

  • Supervises staff, volunteers, and program coordinators, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.

  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional growth

Program Development and Evaluation:

  • Innovates and enhances Food for HOPE's programs, including the  food pantry, teaching kitchen, teaching garden, farm-to-table experiences, mobile food delivery, and meal fellowship.

  • Develops partnerships with restaurants, culinary institutes, and other strategic partners to broaden impact.

  • Implements and monitors evaluation processes to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Community Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Serves as the primary spokesperson for Food for HOPE, advocating for food security and community well-being.

  • Engages with community members, local organizations, and government entities to build support for our mission.

  • Develops and implements outreach strategies to increase community participation and awareness.

Fundraising and Resource Development:

  • Supports fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and event planning.

  • Identifies and pursues new funding opportunities to support the organization’s growth and sustainability.

  • Maintains and expands relationships with current and prospective donors.

Policy & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the food program complies with all federal, state, and local regulations, including food safety standards.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to meet reporting requirements.

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

  • Adheres to established policies and procedures, objectives, safety, and quality control standards.

  • Lives and works consistently with Food for HOPE’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements

Budget Management:

  • Manages the organization’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.

  • Oversees the development and management of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial sustainability.

  • Monitors financial performance, providing regular updates to the Board of Directors and making recommendations for adjustments as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with all financial regulations and best practices in nonprofit financial management.

  • Coordinates with financial staff and auditors to conduct annual audits and prepare financial statements.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Health, Nutrition, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in management role, preferably within a nonprofit and/or food service organization.

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and resource development.

  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking abilities.

  • Passion for food security and community development.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Effective leadership, program management, and ability to innovatively grow a food program

  • Proven skills in securing grants, cultivating donor relationships, and planning successful fundraising events.

  • Expertise in managing budgets, financial reporting, and ensuring financial sustainability.

  • General knowledge of best practices in nonprofit operations, including compliance, governance, and program evaluation.

  • Knowledge of industry federal, state, and local regulations, including food safety standards.

  • Understanding of issues related to food insecurity, community needs, and effective intervention strategies.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team.

  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.

  • Ability to take initiative, think it through, and determine the best path forward without much leading.

  • Excellent organizational, efficiency-minded, writing and proofreading skills.

  • Knowledge and use of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
