Job Purpose:
Plan and execute turnaround and other shutdown activities safely, efficiently and in accordance with applicable premises, approved work processes, and standards.

Dimensions:
  • No direct administrative reports, but does include a significant leadership role in the department
  • Coordination with numerous other disciplines – operations, engineering, procurement, finance
  • Provides direction and leadership to contract work force in the field during execution
  • Familiar with turnaround work processes
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
  • Meets HSE accountabilities / competencies for the position
  • Assist with work scope collection/ challenge as part of the Managed Equipment Care (MEC) process.
  • Field verifies work described in the approved Turnaround Work List and develops detailed work scope activities, with craft type and estimated hours.
  • Assesses job to understand the optimal plan to achieve turnaround premises including low cost and safety performance.
  • Creates bill of material for assigned work and ensures all material is delivered before feed out of unit.
  • Assembles work packages with detailed information for planning and execution. Identification, review, and escalation of high-risk activities.
  • Ensures compliance to plant orders, policies and procedures.
  • Works with Turnaround Block Coordinator(s) and Event Scheduler to establish appropriate schedule logic to efficiently execute scope of work. 
  • Functions as an Area Field Coordinator (AFC) during execution, understands the P6 schedule, and drives the schedule to an efficient and highly effective execution.
  • Directs field activities during Turnaround execution and is the first line of contact with the various contactors.
  • Ensures execution of environmental plan (waste disposal, lead/asbestos abatement, frac tanks, vac trucks, etc.)
  • Is the Quality Captain for his / her area of responsibility, responsible for all aspects of quality – material, flange tightness, completion status
  • Coordinates between craft disciplines during execution.
  • Responsible for reporting status of all work assigned daily.
  • Responsible for proper turnover of all work packs and systems to which he / she is assigned during execution
  • Management of turnaround files and records
  • Provides a critique of turnaround activities after completion of project.
  • During low activity periods between major turnarounds, supplement the base maintenance planners for short durations to work down the planning backlog.
Key Challenges: 
  • Highly demanding and fast paced job, particularly during execution
  • Normal work hours during planning, but 6 to 7 days per week during execution with up to 13 hours/day.
  • Balancing and delivering results in the 5 performance areas of safety, environmental, quality, schedule and cost. 
  • Delivering results against industry (Solomon) benchmarks in turnaround cost and duration
  • Maintain strong relationship with entire team during times of high energy and stress

  • 3-5 Years + Experience in planning turnaround work
  • 1 Year + Experience in scheduling using P6.
