Girl Scouts of Western Ohio is seeking a Camp Ranger to manage one of our camp properties – beautiful Camp Stonybrook located in Waynesville, Ohio! Our Camp Rangers live on the camp property and are responsible for leading the site’s year-round maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance for GSWO. Camp Stonybrook, which opened its doors to campers and outdoor lovers over 75 years ago, sits on a sprawling campus that spans over 300 acres and boasts the largest swimming pool in our whole council at 13 feet deep with a high diving board that guests love!

This year-round camp property welcomes troops and girls to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and fun environment. Camp Stonybrook will also lead our exciting ADA camp upgrades over the next year to improve accessibility for girls of all abilities to enjoy our facilities and to make sure that Girl Scouts is for all girls! Our Camp Rangers ensure our facilities are prepared for year-round camp fun and responsibilities include grounds maintenance, preparing our pools for opening day in the summer, ensuring our buildings are clean and also serving as project coordinator and point of contact for vendors, contractors and guests. Our ideal candidate must love the outdoors and want to live on property, have experience with facilities and basic maintenance, demonstrate excellent customer service, and is self-directed with strong organizational and time management skills.

Our Camp Ranger must live on-site full-time. The position includes hourly pay plus free on-site housing for the Ranger and their family. Housing and utilities are covered, including basic internet.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lives on-site to provide 24-hour emergency coverage.
  • Maintain camp property and facilities to include performing scheduled preventative maintenance on all structures and equipment.
  • Ensure facility operates in compliance with regulatory guidelines including local council, GSUSA, American Camping Association, or other state agency standards. SUSA and council policies, federal guidelines, state statutes, county regulations, American Camping Association requirements, and Ohio Department of Health regulations and agency standards.
  • Ensure that persons utilizing facilities use them appropriately and in accordance with safety and site requirements.
  • Perform year-round grounds maintenance, including clearing trails, maintenance of roads, and mowing grass.
  • Ensure buildings, grounds, and equipment are clean, maintained, repaired, and replaced to provide safety and support for programming at the camp.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all council owned/leased equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Maintain building maintenance and equipment maintenance records.
  • Participate in short and long-term operational and capital improvement plans.
  • Ensure that the water, septic system, and plumbing schedules are maintained, and that a maintenance schedule is posted.
  • Monitor visitors to camp property and ensure no unauthorized access to camp property.
  • Monitor site for weather or general property damage and report to Director of Property Management.
  • Assist in the preparation of the camp annual budget and capital expense requests to provide continual input to the budget process; obtain bids for projects to ensure good financial stewardship
  • Work in a manner to ensure personal safety and safety of others.
  • Provide quality customer service that resolves concerns by offering creative solutions in a timely manner.
  • Attend required trainings and obtain certifications as directed.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position with non-traditional work hours. Evening and weekend work are required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local between GSWO properties, although some out-of-the-area travel may be expected.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least three years of work experience in camp property management, grounds management, or facility maintenance required.
  • Ability to live on-site and provide 24-hour emergency coverage.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical repair, painting, equipment operation and repair and inventory.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to the organization’s goals.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of grounds-keeping equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and functioning vehicle for work within the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio region.

  • Employee must agree to live in council-provided housing on camp property and abide by rules and regulations under the housing agreement, provided by the council. (Housing and utilities covered by GSWO)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds repeatedly; bend, stoop, reach, and sit for extended periods. The employee must be able to perform a variety of physical activities, including but not limited to moving furniture/appliances, loading site materials, manual excavation, and climbing ladders, for facility maintenance, and work in outdoor seasonal heat and cold.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
