Investments and Portfolio Management Intern
Position Description
The Investments and Portfolio Management Intern will be a key member of the investment team at National Grid Renewables (NGR). You will have the opportunity to support all aspects of the business, including origination activities (power sales pricing) and portfolio analysis, supporting senior management decision making via financial modeling and analysis, and market and industry research to support strategic decisions. You will work closely with other teams within NGR, including Development, Origination, Market Operations, Construction, Engineering, Project Management, Legal, Tax, Project Finance, and Asset Management.
The Investments and Portfolio Management function at NGR is responsible for (i) end-to-end investment management, including ensuring transparent decision making throughout development, investment, and operations; (ii) managing and optimizing the NGR portfolio to execute on the agreed upon strategy elements; and (iii) owning data insights to facilitate producing the appropriate pipeline that will deliver on the long-term strategy owning and operating a diverse portfolio of onshore renewable energy assets, working with the NGR leadership team.
Key Accountabilities
Job duties of this role span the entire business, from development through operations.
Investment Management- Research and analyze economic and market trends to support strategic decisions
- Compile information and create financial models to support the Investments and Portfolio Management, Commercial, and Project Finance group functions
- Support team members who are leading internal investment approval processes
- Assist with ongoing efforts to validate investment value, track deal processes, and assess investment performance
- Conduct analysis on the alignment between annual plan, business planning, and strategy
- Analyze complex legal documents to determine impacts to financial model and investment strategy
- Compile and analyze data for modeling current and future portfolio performance
- Compile and summarize financial data and performance of operational assets
- Analyze and report changes in portfolio and individual assets based upon portfolio composition and investment performance
- Support analysis on opportunities for portfolio optimization
- Guide and inform the Origination team on power purchase agreement pricing that reflect the projects’ required return thresholds
- Build and analyze financial models for early-stage wind, solar, and storage projects
- Provide financial analysis support for various projects (calculating revenue requirements, net present value, development cost impacts, etc.)
- Support analysis of pipeline risk, attrition, and market value to influence development activities in support of optimizing investment opportunities and portfolio composition
- Support members from other departments within the firm with miscellaneous financial analysis
- Conduct market analysis to support investment theses (basis analysis, long term market curve analysis, etc.)
