ABOUT THE POSITION
The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for providing legal counsel and services on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters. The chosen candidate will work directly with the business and support functions providing proactive legal support and counsel as well as leadership supporting senior management.

Deliverables & Responsibilities
  • Support the long-term business objectives to ensure alignment with the overall legal strategy of the company.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to the Astec business.
  • Review and advise on contracts with internal clients.
  • Manage and advise on pre-litigation matters.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel for support with complex legal matters.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders for various commercial transactions, including structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements and working with the business to establish optimal standard contract terms with high value/significant clients
  • Help build and maintain contracting playbooks, contract templates and clause libraries, legal process workflows, and other tools to help scale the legal function
  • Manage and advise on pre-litigation matters/contractual disputes affecting the business
  • Assist with the review and implementation of compliance policies
  • Assist in the establishment, implementation, and communication of formal policies, processes, and procedures with respect to contract lifecycle management
  • Collaborate with teams across Astec Industries, including sales, operations, product, finance, procurement, and human resources
  • Supervise outside counsel to provide critical support on complex legal and business issues, and liaise with internal stakeholders and third parties
  • Provide legally sound, pragmatic, and practical recommendations under tight deadlines

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school required
  • 5-8 years’ experience in the practice of commercial and contract law; prior in-house experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate, demonstrate diplomacy, and otherwise interact well with colleagues and management
  • Highly disciplined with the ability to make independent decisions and work with limited supervision while excelling in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work product
  • Strong work ethic and ability to handle and advance multiple projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Ability to deal confidently with internal business leadership, outside counsel and external customers at all organizational levels
  • Ability to synthesize complex sets of issues and propose paths forward
