About The Job: 
National Grid Renewables is seeking a college intern to join its Community Engagement team for the spring of 2025. The Community Engagement function team is part of the larger External Affairs team, and is focused on building and maintaining good relationships in the communities where we build renewable energy projects. The intern will assist with a variety of tasks related to community outreach and opposition management. This work will have a real impact on future solar and wind projects in many areas of the United States. 
The intern will learn fast in a changing and growing company, and will take away “real world experience,” as well as a better understanding of the renewable energy industry. At the summer's end, the intern will have a chance to present their work and experience to leadership staff.  
We look forward to welcoming our intern to join the supportive and collaborative External Affairs team, which will include college interns in Marketing & Communications and Policy. National Grid Renewables has a strong internship program, and regularly offers additional enrichment opportunities. 
What You'll Do: 
  • Build a dashboard of community sentiment/opposition towards renewable energy for all projects in the NG Renewables portfolio
  • Manage logistics for corporate volunteer events
  • Administrative support for open houses and other events in project communities
  • Support wind and solar plant managers in hosting annual National Clean Energy Week open houses
  • Additional research, assistance and administrative duties, as needed, for the Community Engagement team
  • Possible travel to support community events throughout the internship
  • Prepare weekly reports to provide status of work activities
  • Other duties as assigned
What You Need: 
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or masters program, with a preference for business, political science, social science, and environmental fields
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy and the clean energy transition
  • Desire to go above and beyond 
  • Highly motivated, with a positive attitude 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Team player committed to collaboration and participation in feedback loops 
  • Organized with a willingness to learn and pivot as needed 
  • Enjoys research and data analysis 
  • Good note-taking skills 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products (i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word) 
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms 
  • Interest in learning new skills and IT systems 
  • Preferred but not required: participation in extracurricular activities, such as teams, clubs, etc. that shows leadership skills and/or team player skills
