Basic Job Functions:
The NPI / Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for leading the introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring that production processes are optimized, efficient, and capable of delivering high-quality products. This role focuses on driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
 
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • New Product Introduction (NPI):
  • Lead and manage the introduction of new products into the manufacturing environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, design, manufacturing, and quality to ensure smooth product launch.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions, and production line layouts for new products.
  • Conduct risk assessments, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and implement corrective actions to mitigate potential issues during the launch phase.
  • Ensure that new products meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies to optimize manufacturing efficiency.
  • Analyze production data to identify areas for waste reduction, productivity enhancement, and cost savings.
  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen events, root cause analysis, and problem-solving sessions to drive operational improvements.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Process Development & Optimization:
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure consistent and reliable production processes.
  • Implement process control techniques and quality assurance practices to maintain product quality.
  • Work closely with the production team to provide training and support on new processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the availability and quality of materials and components for new product introductions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including management, engineering, production, and quality teams, to drive project success.
  • Support cross-functional teams in troubleshooting and resolving production-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements of the Job:
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with process development, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
  • Proficient in CAD software and data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to work different schedules, hours, shifts, days, or locations occasionally as required to meet project requirements
  • Able to hear/execute speech in person and over the telephone
  • Able to hear alarms/sounds through ambient noise and everyday conversation
  • Able to sit or stand at a desk for 50% of workday
  • Ability to walk and stand on concrete floors
  • Able to climb stairs occasionally

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

Travel:  Yes, with approval from Supervisor

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field).
  • 3+ years of experience in NPI, manufacturing engineering, or continuous improvement roles.
