Artificial intelligence (AI) is a significant growth enabler for a diversity of organizations – providing enhanced capabilities, business innovations, and strategic advantages. Robust and reliable machine learning (ML) operations (MLOps) models and processes are paramount to the development of safe, secure, and trustworthy AI technologies. Over the past 3 years, Lockheed Martin's Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) has developed an industry leading AI/MLOps capability (AI Factory) as well as Generative AI solutions aimed at improving company operations, enabling complex defense systems, and serving our customers' most challenging AI missions.
Lockheed Martin has launched an AI/ML strategic project under the management of LMEvolve, a Lockheed Martin corporate initiative to leverage key Lockheed Martin competencies for dual use in collaboration with commercial partners and in support of critical customer missions.
Job Description
The Chief of Staff / Operations Senior Manager will play a critical role in the successful standup and ongoing management of a new business including smooth operation of executive functions, strategic initiatives, and cross-departmental projects. This dynamic and detail-oriented individual will be responsible for overseeing the financial and operational aspects of the business, ensuring its stability and growth. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) to drive organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:- Executive and Board of Director Presentation
- Develop and refine business strategy plus operational and financial presentation material
- Coordinate across departments and functions to gather necessary information and insights
- Financial Management
- Implement and maintain financial and operational systems and processes to ensure scalability and sustainability, including customer contracting, customer relationship management (CRM), a financial ledge, and enterprise resource planning (ERP)
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support the business's short- and long-term goals, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Operations Management
- Oversee all aspects of operations and project management, including project planning, execution, and monitoring
- Facilitate the procurement / supply chain management process, including drafting Statements of Work (SOWs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluating supplier proposals, managing supplier contracts, monitoring supplier performance, and approving/paying invoices
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase revenue
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies, including financial reporting requirements and tax laws
- Contracting and Sales Support
- Facilitate the preparation of customer proposals and contracts, including responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs), plus facilitating Statements of Work (SOWs) and Bases of Estimate (BOEs)
- Generate business cases and develop pricing strategies for new business capture and customer retention
- Ad Hoc and Other
- Develop and implement cross-functional strategies that support the business's overall goals
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Identify and mitigate risks, and develop contingency plans as needed
- Address ad hoc questions and projects, including the preparation of investor relations decks
- Stay up to date with the latest AI trends and technologies
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business, engineering, or computer science
- Strong financial acumen and extensive experience in profit and loss (P&L) management, with a proven ability to manage budgets, forecast revenue, report financials to leadership, and drive profitability
- Experience in implementing and maintaining financial and operational systems and processes
- Experience in supply chain management, including experience using supply chain systems (SAP)
- Prior experience managing projects and operations for an organization
- Deep understanding of commercial business principals
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills that foster collaboration
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and government contracting
- MBA or master's degree in business, engineering, or a related field
- Strong understanding of AI technologies and their applications
- Strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including senior executives, decision-makers, and influencers, using strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proactive and strategic thinker, able to identify opportunities and develop creative solutions to complex challenges
- Documented record of driving results, with a focus on maximizing revenue opportunities and driving profitability
- Collaborative team player, able to work effectively with cross-functional teams to drive business objectives and achieve shared goals
- Passionate about making a positive impact in the world, using your expertise in AI and related fields to drive innovation and solve complex challenges
- Experience in a sales role, including with customer relationship management (CRM) resources, in a technical industry
