ABOUT THE POSITION
The Applications Engineer, Control Systems role is a member of the Concrete Batch Plant Control Systems product development team that works with other disciplines within the organization to represent customers. This role drives customer success through all phases of the product lifespan, from installation and startup, through routine operation, and technical troubleshooting when issues arise. The role requires a blend of technical knowledge of PLC and PC software, hardware and electronics, and concrete batch plant operations.
Key Deliverables- Provide technical support to customers in collaboration with Support Technicians.
- Proactively contact existing customers to elicit their concerns and understand their challenges, providing the feedback to relevant internal teams.
- Define new Control System product requirements for the development team that will improve the customer experience and fill missing product capabilities.
- Occasionally provide training to end users, internal sales personnel and distributors.
Key Activities & Responsibilities- Undergo a continuous learning process to grasp breadth and depth of all capabilities of the Batch Plant Control System.
- Troubleshoot customer issues by referencing site electrical schematics, reviewing software configuration, and reproducing issues in the lab when necessary.
- Monitor new Control System / Batch Plant startups, coordinating remotely with Field Service personnel on site. Identify problems and propose changes to improve outcomes.
- Define Use Scenarios of Control System that need to be tested for in development, to avoid difficulties with control operations that are encountered by customers.
- Create end user documentation, training material, marketing material.
- Assist with testing of new Batch Plant Control System hardware and software.
- Depending on skillset and interest, may assist with SolidWorks Electrical Layouts.
- Depending on skillset and interest, may develop Control System software.
- Depending on skillset and interest, may travel to customer sites for Control startups.
- Ability and willingness to periodically work evenings and weekends to support customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:- College diploma or university degree in the field of Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
- 3 plus years of relevant professional experience
- Knowledge of any of these toolsets and technologies is an advantage: Microsoft Visual Studio, C# programming, Microsoft.Net, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic for Applications, CodeSys, RS Logix, Structured Text and Ladder Logic, SolidWorks, AutoCAD.
- Familiar with PLC-based control systems / PC-based supervisory systems.
- Understanding of control system electronics, electric motors, pneumatics, hydraulics.
- Knowledge or experience in Concrete Batching is a plus, but not required.
- Great attention to detail and organization is necessary to succeed in this role.
- A passion for analytic, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving tasks.
- Great written and oral communication skills for highly technical subjects.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment and occasionally a manufacturing shop plant environment.
