The Locator is responsible for locating and guiding directional boring equipment during the installation of telecommunications cables and conduits underground. Working closely with drill operators, this position ensures that drilling is precise and minimizes risks to existing utilities. The Bore Locator will operate specialized locating equipment, interpret utility maps, and maintain safety standards on all projects. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong technical skills in locating, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency in underground telecommunications infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Utilize advanced locating equipment to accurately identify and mark existing underground utilities to prevent disruptions and ensure safe drilling operations.
  • Guide and communicate with drill operators during bore operations, providing real-time feedback on bore path alignment to ensure accuracy.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, utility maps, and GIS data to understand existing utility layouts and guide bore operations accordingly.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate locating equipment to ensure it functions accurately, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and industry regulations, ensuring work areas are safe and hazard-free.
  • Conduct pre-bore site inspections and post-bore evaluations for quality control.
  • Maintain accurate records of bore paths, utility locations, and any deviations from planned routes.
  • Complete daily logs and reports on bore operations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with team members, project managers, and, when necessary, customers to ensure timely project completion and address any on-site challenges.
  • Help set up bore sites, position equipment, and secure work zones. Support in cleaning up and restoring work sites after projects
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • 3+ year experience in utility locating or operating a directional boring 
  • Ability to listen and implement directions 
  • Candidates must pass pre-employment testing (MVR, drug screen and background check) 
  • Must have basic computer skills in order to develop and maintain bore logs 
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Must be able to climb up and down ladders, scaffoldings and lifts 
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions; this includes extreme temperatures 
  • At times you may be required to work in trenches, manholes, tunnels, closets and crawl spaces 
  • Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. from floor and above head 
  • Have knowledge and ability to identify and use basic hand tools 
  • Class A CDL license is preferred
  • Must be willing to travel
