ABOUT THE POSITION
The Cost Accounting Manager is a critical position in the accounting department that reports directly to the Controller and manages two direct report.  This position will oversee all costing and inventory related responsibilities throughout the business.
Key Deliverables
  • Develop cost standards for material, labor and overhead
  • Analyze production cost and recommend changes
  • Oversee annual physical inventory
  • Provide support for controller and operation with any reporting request
  • Maintain compliance with financial accounting standards

Key Activities & Responsibilities
  • Ensures timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management
  • Supports the Controller and Operations with any ad hoc reporting requests
  • Responds timely to all Internal and External Audit requests related to costing and inventory
  • Supports and helps oversee month end responsibilities to ensure proper GAAP Accounting occurred
  • Takes a lead role in the physical inventory audit each year and monitors the cycle count accuracy
  • Maintain internal control documentation and test internal controls
  • Streamline processes throughout the department outside of costing/inventory in support of a lean accounting department.
  • Ensure inventory is properly valued and reserved as necessary
  • Reviews and Ends production orders
  • Runs, analyzes, and summarizes cost roll ups.
  • Prepares various month-end close reports and journal entries as needed.
  • Projects a positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, customers, and management in a cooperative, supportive, and courteous manner; displays a professional attitude; complies with company dress code.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • B.S. degree in accounting, minimum of three (5) years of accounting experience and good understanding of accounting principles required. 
  • Cost accounting experience, knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite software, specifically Excel (Advanced), preferred.
  • Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is critical for this role.
  • Good organization and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and take on new challenges.
  • Accurate data entry/typing and proofreading skills.                 
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a customary and regular basis.      
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

Supervisor and Leadership Expectations
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Accounting Department.  Directly supervises one (1) to four (4) subordinate Accounting non-supervisory employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in compliance with any applicable employment law guidelines and upon consultation with the company president and/or the Director of Human Resources, if necessary.
