2025 Summer Internship — Wildfire Experimental Research Internship
The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is seeking interns to join our team this summer. As an IBHS intern, you’ll contribute to our mission of strengthening homes, businesses, and communities against severe weather—which means making a difference in the lives of real people. You’ll also work for a world-class organization where integrity and hard work are valued and where crash-testing homes and buildings is all part of the plan for discovering better building methods.

What You’ll Learn
As a Wildfire Experimental Research intern, you’ll get experience in supporting IBHS’s research including, but not limited to:- Design and execute experiments at the IBHS research center to examine the vulnerability of hot tubs or similar connective fuels to wildfire ignitions and their potential role in suburban conflagration.
- Lead the execution of a set of experiments aimed at understanding the impact of connective fuels within Zone 0 and Zone 1 of structures experiencing characteristic wildfire exposures.
- Support the many wildfire test initiatives that IBHS will executing next year
- Support the ADU burn testing that investigates the key drivers of structure-to-structure fire spread through full scale wind driven fire experiments.
- Involvement in all facets of experimental fire testing including physical setup, instrumentation, execution, clean up, and data collection, curating of data and data analysis
Qualifications
Successful candidates must have:- Research experience
- Experience collecting or analyzing data would be an asset
- Laboratory experience setting would be an asset
- Background in fire science would be an asset but not a requirement
- Proficient in programming language (i.e. Python), LabView, and/or MATLAB
