General Job Responsibilities

As a member of the Meijer team, you'll be responsible for delivering remarkable customer service with exceptional product knowledge, efficient assistance, and a friendly attitude. Team members engage in a wide range of retail tasks, from customer service to merchandising.

Core Responsibilities Across Positions

  • Build rapport with customers through eye contact and friendly body language.
  • Respond effectively to customer questions.
  • Maintain and stock product displays following merchandising standards.
  • Utilize technology for tasks and activities.
  • Follow safety and sanitation procedures to ensure quality service.
  • Stand for prolonged periods and handle products by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.

Opportunities Available in the Following Departments:

  • Clerks (Meat, Deli, Bakery, Produce, Frozen/Dairy, Grocery, General Merchandise): Engage with customers, answer questions, and maintain product displays.
  • Courtesy Clerk: Assist with cart retrieval, store cleaning, and support additional department areas.
  • Overnight Stocking (Grocery and General Merchandise): Responsible for restocking shelves and maintaining inventory. Night shifts apply.
  • Online Pickup Clerk: Fulfill customer orders for curbside pick-up, ensuring efficient service and accurate payment collection.
  • Cashier: Craft quality customer experiences by providing efficient, effective customer service in the checkout lane.

Common Responsibilities for Cashiers

  • Utilize technology for activities and complete tasks.
  • Create 'WOW' moments that leave a positive and lasting impact on customers.
  • Complete transactions and handle money responsibly, ensuring the accuracy of point of sale purchases.
  • Maintain a friendly and outgoing attitude, using effective eye contact and body language.
  • Address customer questions adequately and appropriately.
  • Build trustful relationships with customers to encourage repeat visits.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and process-driven.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Willingness to learn or existing familiarity with job-specific technology.
  • Competent in problem-solving and eager to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment and interact consistently with customers.
  • Age 18 or older is required for certain positions.
  • Previous retail or customer experience preferred but not required for some roles.
