Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinates and edits Environmental Compliance (EC) input to Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) annual reports, including the Annual Site Environmental Report (ASER) and the Remediation Effectiveness Report (RER).
- Supports preparation of regulatory decision and implementation documents, specifically to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and other regulations.
- Evaluates potential environmental impacts of proposed activities such as decontamination and demolition, building maintenance or renovation, and land use changes – ensuring compliance with NEPA and coordinating with DOE on NEPA reviews and documentation (e.g., report and/or categorical exclusion).
- Supports planning process for modifications to or demolition of historic ORR structures to determine DOE cultural resources management program requirements for NHPA compliance.
- Identifies potential impacts of proposed projects on ecologically sensitive resources such as floodplains, wetlands, threatened/endangered species, and migratory birds, as well as socioeconomic, transportation and cultural resources.
- Provides day-to-day EC support to projects and operations to ensure compliance with environmental policies, requirements, and procedures.
- Conducts surveillance, management assessments, and compliance inspections, as assigned.
- Supports regulatory agency and DOE interactions (e.g., negotiations, inspections, technical assistance).
- Supports preparation / modification and implementation of hazardous waste permits.
- Oversees and designs tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by the Company, client and environmental and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water and soil.
- Serves as a technical and policy advisor to project personnel and management.
- Completes work assignments with a high level of personal accountability, teamwork, initiative, and quality.
- Follows established policies, methods, and practices of the Company.
- Maintains knowledge of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner, and, if supervising others, has responsibility for the safety of those being supervised.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related science, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: 4+ years of relevant experience required
Level Specific Responsibilities: Under limited supervision, is responsible for providing mid-level environmental support. Supports management with environmental issues, provides environmental services and oversight to projects and operations, coordinates projects and operations, environmental regulatory interactions, and assists with setting overall environmental strategies, policies, procedures, and standards. Ensures projects and operations achieve environmental compliance and stewardship.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related science, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: 7+ years of relevant experience required
Level Specific Responsibilities: Under minimal supervision, is responsible for providing senior-level environmental support. Supports management with more complex environmental issues, provides environmental services and oversight to projects and operations, coordinates projects and operations environmental regulatory interactions, and makes recommendations for setting overall environmental strategies, policies, procedures, and standards. Act as Subject Matter Expert as needed and appropriate. Ensures projects and operations achieve environmental compliance and stewardship.
OR
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related science, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree desired.
Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience required
Level Specific Responsibilities:
Under general management direction, is responsible for providing complex technical environmental support. Manages environmental programs and issues for a major phase or component of project. Provides environmental services and oversight to projects and operations, coordinates projects and operations environmental regulatory interactions, and sets overall environmental strategies, policies, procedures, and standards. Act as Subject Matter Expert as needed and appropriate. Presents and recommends technical solutions to policy level environmental issues. Ensures projects and operations achieve environmental compliance and stewardship.
