Salary Range: CAD 74,000 – 78,000 plus competitive benefits package

The Role
The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Camp George is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Business Manager to oversee and enhance the financial and administrative operations of the camp. This key role ensures that Camp George runs efficiently while aligning with the URJ’s financial policies and business practices. The Business Manager will collaborate closely with the Camp Director to implement both short- and long-term business plans that support the camp’s growth and deepen its programmatic impact.
What You Will Do
Reporting directly to the Camp Director, the Business Manager is responsible for the following:

Business Operations & Financial Management: Oversee and streamline business operations at camp, ensuring alignment with URJ financial policies and practices. Collaborate with the Camp Director to implement short- and long-term business strategies. Support recovery efforts from Dining Hall fire.

Budgeting & Financial Planning: Partner with the Camp Director to create and manage the annual budget, conduct quarterly projections, and track financial performance throughout the year. Utilize Adaptive (budgeting software) to monitor revenues and expenditures, flagging potential issues and opportunities. Produce accurate, timely financial reports, including budget projections, development/grant reports, and financial insights required by URJ’s central finance department.

Day-to-Day Financial Oversight: Manage accounting, financial tracking, and business operations for both camp and year-round youth programs. Responsibilities include accounts payable/receivable, bookkeeping, budget tracking, reconciliation, banking (deposits, transfers), petty cash management, purchase orders, grant support, and participant registration/payment processes. Oversee seasonal staff payroll processes and manage year-round staff time and attendance according to URJ payroll policies. Serve as the primary contact for camp families and synagogues regarding account balances, payments, fees, and general registration inquiries.

Development & Scholarship Support: Oversee the management of financial assistance and scholarships for the camp in partnership with the UJA. Administer applications, assist families through the process, and ensure confidentiality. Coordinate the yearly review process for camp council decisions regarding financial assistance. Support the development team with fundraising campaigns, including setting up financial platforms for donations.

Insurance & Vendor Management: Manage insurance-related processes, including workers’ compensation, camper insurance, vehicle insurance, and general liability coverage. Collaborate with the Camp Director and other staff to evaluate and manage vendor relationships, ensuring competitive pricing and services.

Canadian Finance Support: In collaboration with the URJ Finance team, assist with managing Canadian finances, including monthly reporting of Camp George and RJCC pension contributions to Canada Life, fund transfers, and vendor payments.

To be successful in this job, you excel in the following areas:
Financial Management & Reporting: Experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Proficiency in managing accounts payable/receivable, bookkeeping, and reconciliation processes. Experience with financial management software, particularly Adaptive or similar tools, to track budgets, expenditures, and financial projections.
Self-Management & Accountability: Strong ability to assess priorities and manage time effectively to meet goals while ensuring personal well-being. Competence in establishing SMARTIE goals aligned with organizational objectives and collaborating with management for clarity. Skill in articulating needs and challenges clearly to foster a transparent and collaborative environment. Commitment to maintaining respectful communication and timely responses to colleagues and stakeholders. Initiative in regularly accessing organizational updates and essential information to stay informed and effective.
Collaborative Teamwork: Ability to work with diverse teams to achieve shared goals, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities. Skill in managing time and resources to meet commitments on schedule and within budget while addressing challenges respectfully. Capacity to connect people and ideas to identify and implement opportunities for enhancement across teams.
