JOB SUMMARY:
The Geologist II will be the primary geologic contact during drilling operations and will be expected to prepare subsurface reviews of upcoming new drills; geosteer wells continuously; compile and document all post-drill evaluations; as well as support other teams (e.g., regulatory, engineering) in post-drill needs. The candidate will also work with the development team to prepare and move forward permitting for new drill inventory. This role will have primarily technical responsibilities and some supervisory responsibilities over third party vendors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supervise and provide geological support during drilling operations at the wellsite.
- Ensure that drilling is proceeding as planned, based on geological data, and make real-time adjustments when necessary.
- Monitor wellbore conditions, assess drilling progress, and provide immediate feedback on geological aspects.
- Analyze data collected during drilling, such as cuttings, core samples, and logging while drilling (LWD) data.
- Interpret geophysical and geological data to optimize wellbore placement and identify the most productive zones for natural gas extraction.
- Communicate with drilling engineers to adjust drilling parameters if necessary.
- Evaluate formations encountered during drilling to assess potential gas reserves and help identify the best drilling targets.
- Ensure accurate and timely assessment of geological formations through mud logging, cuttings, and other well data.
- Help manage well logging programs and advise on the necessity of specialized logs (e.g., resistivity, porosity, or density).
- Use geological software and models to map and model subsurface formations and predict the potential for gas production.
- Update geological models based on real-time data from wells.
- Work closely with drilling engineers, and other geoscientists to ensure drilling operations are optimized and aligned with overall exploration and production goals.
- Provide geological input for decision-making in the planning and design of new wells.
- Offer expertise during planning for drilling campaigns, including well design and location selection.
- Ensure that drilling operations comply with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Basic skills in subsurface geoscience data integration with drilling, completions, and reservoir engineering information required.
- Familiarity with seismic interpretation and the use of seismic data in operations planning preferred.
- Ability to identify and communicate geologic hazards and risks associated with drilling and completions operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and job-related applications. Uses insights from digital tools to improve performance.
