Girl Scouts of Western Ohio is seeking a camp leader to join us as our Teen Leadership Director for the 2025 Summer Camp season! This position will serve as a direct manager of the older girl programs for the duration of our council Day Camp at Camp Butterworth in Maineville, OH. The Teen Leadership Director serves as the head of the Program Aid Training, Program Assistant, and Counselor-in-Training I & II programs that run at Camp Butterworth for the entire summer season, managing up 20 campers per week. The OGL Director works with the Program Director to schedule campers into weekly sessions as well as plan and implement all training to support campers to achieve earning their training pins. 

This is an exciting seasonal leadership position with the chance to spend the summer outdoors enjoying fun girl adventures! Our summer camp season begins in late May and runs through early August. The camp leadership staff will start around Memorial Day, and we provide a full training and onboarding program for all staff in preparation to effectively lead and participate in summer programming with our girls! ​​​​​​Our ideal candidates must love the outdoors, have experience working with kids, demonstrate excellent customer service and can work within a team environment. Camp Butterworth – Our summer day camp site located in Maineville, Ohio, sits on a sprawling campus of over 150 acres and has been operating and hosting girls, campers, and lovers of the outdoors for over 75 years! GSWO hosts over 2,800 girls over the Summer at all of our camps and it takes an awesome staff to ensure a safe and fun experience for each camper! Our camp offers a variety of positions that support the girls in their daily adventures such as hiking, archery, creek paddling, and enjoying the climbing wall or taking a ride down our waterslide before a dip in the swimming pool!

Essential Functions
  • Assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the camp director.
  • Assist the camp director and assistant camp director with preparing and conducting pre-camp, in-service staff training, and the closing of camp.
  • Provide team leadership and management of the CITs and PA’s by providing regular, documented coaching and evaluations.
  • Implement safety guidelines including Safety Activity Checkpoints and American Camp Association standards.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop weekly schedules and staff assignments.
  • Provide training to staff to understand and support the CIT program and the staff’s role in the integration of CITs in other camp sessions.
  • Plan, organize, and implement training sessions for counselors-in-training and program assistant training based on Girl Scouts of Western Ohio curriculum during training weeks. 
  • Perform regular, documented skill assessments of CITs to ensure individual progression and growth.
  • Review CIT program goals with camp director to ensure compliance with requirements set forth by GSUSA and American Camp Association standards for the development of leadership skills in participating girls.
  • Review CIT daily logs and providing follow up, support, and briefing the director and assistant director on any concern or reoccurring issues.
  • Evaluate the CIT program’s current season and make suggestions for the following season.
  • Drive the camp van to transport campers or staff as needed.
 
General Functions
  • Guide activities and experiences through the use of girl planning and the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
  • Observe camper behavior, assessing its appropriateness, enforcing appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and applying appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Help to build good relations with parents/caregivers and camp visitors.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Provide coverage in units as assigned to contribute to staff ratios and assisting with unit housekeeping, sanitation, care of supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in general camp program activities.
  • Coordinate unit activities with those of the entire camp.
  • Submit all required weekly and end-of-season reports on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification (can be acquired upon employment).
  • Ability to schedule and manage both campers and staff.
  • Previous camping experience and administrative ability desirable
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups of girls ages 5–17 and provide necessary verbal instruction to campers.
  • Training and experience leading adolescent girls.
  • Physical ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Ability to respond in a crisis management situation.
  • Current valid driver’s license.  (National driver’s background check will be required prior to driving for the organization.)
  • Successful completion of a medical examination.
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and background check in accordance with Ohio and federal law.
  • Other requirements as determined by Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.  ​​​​​​
