SUMMARY

 

The Quality Manager oversees all quality functions related to L2 Aviation’s manufacturing operations, ensuring product conformity, regulatory compliance, and adherence to AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards. This position manages the inspection team, calibration systems, documentation control, and production quality assurance processes supporting avionics line-replaceable units (LRUs), wiring harness fabrication, and integration kits. The ideal candidate has prior military aviation or avionics maintenance experience, combined with a strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems and team leadership in a high-reliability environment.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Lead the Quality Assurance team for manufacturing and production, ensuring that all parts, harnesses, and assemblies conform to design, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and improve the AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) to support production, inspection, and testing operations.
  • Supervise inspectors responsible for in-process, first article, and final inspections, ensuring objective evidence of conformity is maintained.
  • Manage nonconformance control, material review, and corrective/preventive action systems to drive root cause resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee calibration programs for test and measurement equipment, ensuring traceability to NIST standards and compliance with internal calibration intervals.
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audits from customers, regulatory agencies, and certification bodies.
  • Partner with Engineering and Production to ensure quality planning, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards are embedded into all manufacturing processes.
  • Support document control processes, ensuring manufacturing travelers, inspection records, and quality documentation are complete and compliant.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance, conduct supplier evaluations, and enforce incoming inspection requirements for raw materials and components.
  • Lead initiatives focused on improving first pass yield (FPY), reducing scrap and rework, and strengthening defect prevention at the source.
  • Provide quality training for inspectors, technicians, and production staff to promote a culture of ownership and accountability in manufacturing quality.
  • Serve as the quality representative for production readiness reviews, corrective action boards, and customer quality reviews
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in aviation, aerospace, or defense manufacturing quality management.
  • Hands-on experience in wiring harness fabrication, avionics assembly, or precision electrical/mechanical manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations, AS9100, and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing inspection teams, enforcing process discipline, and managing quality performance metrics.
  • Skilled in root cause analysis, CAPA, FAI documentation, and process control methods.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Effective communicator with strong documentation and technical reporting skills.
  • Prior military aviation maintenance or avionics background (USAF, USN, USMC, or Army Aviation) strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and organizational excellence.
  • Must submit to and pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-year TSA/CVG background check to obtain and maintain TSA/CVG badging.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Office-based with frequent collaboration across various departments.

Periodic travel to suppliers, and customer facilities for certification reviews and audits.
