Location: Utica, NY

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Education and Training to join their team in Utica, NY. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the development, delivery, and compliance of staff training programs aligned with the standards of regulatory agencies such as OPWDD, OMH, DOH, and OSHA. The Director will provide direct supervision to the Staff Development Instructor and play a central role in planning and facilitating new employee orientation, as well as targeted training initiatives across various subject areas. This individual will ensure that all training programs support the delivery of high-quality services to individuals with developmental and other disabilities. Additionally, the Director will serve as a mentor and resource for staff trainers across the organization.

What You’ll Do:

·        Oversee the daily operations of the Education and Training Department and the Conference & Training Center.

·        Develop, implement, and maintain training policies, procedures, and materials, including management of the Learning Management System and monthly training calendar.

·        Coordinate and facilitate staff orientation and ongoing training programs, ensuring content remains current and compliant with agency and regulatory requirements.

·        Supervise training personnel including the Staff Development Instructor and Health Care Educator; mentor agency trainers to ensure certification and quality.

·        Evaluate training needs, identify or create curriculum, and ensure proper inventory and maintenance of all training resources.

·        Foster interdepartmental collaboration to support training initiatives and compliance efforts.

·        Participate in agency committees, contribute to policy development, and serve as a training resource for leadership and staff across all divisions.

·        Manage fiscal aspects of the department, including budgeting and billing processes.

·        Ensure adherence to all safety, HIPAA, confidentiality, and corporate compliance standards.

·        Maintain certifications (e.g., First Aid, CPR, SCIP) and provide training as needed.

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills; capable of delivering engaging, interactive presentations to adult learners.

·        Proficient in creating dynamic training content using multimedia tools and various learning modalities.

·        Skilled in navigating computer systems and platforms for training development, delivery, and reporting (e.g., LMS).

·        Experience developing and conducting effective training sessions, including coordination with external training providers.

·        Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends, to meet training needs across programs and divisions.

·        Technically adept with training software and tools, including resources to support workforce diversity such as translation services and equipment.

·        Physically able to travel to off-site training locations, stand for extended periods, and demonstrate physical skills such as CPR and SCIP.

·        Requires full range of motion and normal corrected vision and hearing for effective training delivery.

 

Education and Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Education, Training, or a related field, or licensure as a Registered Nurse.

·        Minimum of 5 years of experience in the human services field (preferably OPWDD), including at least 3 years in a training or staff development role;

or

·        At least 4 years of experience in training within an OPWDD-regulated environment, with demonstrated expertise in LMS administration, curriculum development, and staff mentorship (e.g., train-the-trainer programs).

 

Salary: $50,000 - $65,000 per year
