Job Purpose:
The Assistant Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing every aspect concerning the daily operations of the Shipping Department. The Assistant Shipping Manager must be able to communicate well with employees within the business unit to ensure smooth and efficient operation. The Assistant Shipping Manager is responsible for communication between the Shipping Department and the other departments to ensure all shipments are filled as ordered. The Assistant Shipping Manager reports directly to the Director of Warehouse Operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage time punches for personnel
- Maintain a clean, professional, and safe working environment
- Maintain a rotational schedule of assigned responsibilities for staff
- Manage the loading of drop trailers according to the MAPF Order Calendar
- Manage the placement of finished goods inventory off the packaging lines in the warehouse
- Manage the disposal of out of date finished goods inventory being placed into disposal
- Inform personnel of any changes that occur to company policies
- Ensure FIFO and other company procedures are being followed when pulling off the packaging lines, gathering, staging, and/or shipping orders
- Effectively navigate ERP/Inventory Management software
- Manage issues or conflict that may arise inside of the business unit
- Ensure equipment is in safe and working order
- Ensure staff are adhering to all MAPF safety policies and procedures
- Ensure forklift inspections are being completed on a per shift basis
- Ensure staff are completing assigned responsibilities in a timely manner
- Ensure damaged pallets are restacked and placed in the proper location for shipment
- Print sales orders for the given workday according to the MAPF Order Calendar
- Complete verification of a loaded trailer before leaving loading dock
- Receive various items including but not limited to finished goods, packaging materials, etc.
- Must be able to meet call-in requirements as well as work extended hours as necessary
- Always foster a culture of safe behavior and Regulatory compliance
- Always maintain a TEAM environment
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Prior management/supervisor experience
- Prior warehouse/shipping experience
- Understands how to manage personnel and process
- Prior ERP/Inventory Management software experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and possess the ability and willingness to learn new software applications
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy. The Assistant Shipping Manager will be required to adhere to all safety requirements. This position operates in a non-climate-controlled work environment.
In the warehouse, the Assistant Shipping Manager may be exposed to heat, cold and other elements. While performing the duties of this position, the Assistant Shipping Manager will be exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, internal and external temperature/weather conditions.
Specific physical requirements include:
- Occasionally lifting weight up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Walking up to two (2) or more miles a day.
- Operating both sit-down forklifts and reach trucks
- Working at heights, and at temperatures from 0 to 100 plus degrees Fahrenheit.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
