Location: Hybrid (Virtual and onsite at OSRUI in Oconomowoc, WI)

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 plus competitive benefits package

The Role 

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) seeks a dynamic, compassionate, and strategic Senior Assistant Director of Camper Care & Enrollment to help create a vibrant and transformative summer camp, as well as impactful year-round youth and family engagement experiences. This role is central to ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive camp environment where campers and staff thrive. The Senior Assistant Director leads OSRUI’s camper care and enrollment strategy, oversees mental health and wellness initiatives, and builds meaningful relationships with families to support recruitment, retention, and community connection. In partnership with the Camp Director and leadership team, this role advances the URJ’s mission to foster inclusive communities of belonging, where young people from diverse backgrounds — including Campers of Color, LGBTQ+ campers, campers with disabilities, and others from underrepresented communities — are empowered as leaders to build a better world and engage in Jewish life throughout their lives. 

What You Will Do 

Camper Care & Well-being  

  • Champion camper and staff well-being by fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued. 

  • Oversee camper registration, data collection, and management of camper information. 

  • Lead OSRUI’s mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH) initiatives, ensuring strong support systems for campers and staff. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote emotional well-being, resilience, and inclusion throughout the camp community. 

  • Provide training and resources for staff and families to support camper readiness and wellness before, during, and after camp. 

ENGAGEMENT, RECRUITMENT & RETENTION   

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for camper enrollment, retention, and data management. 

  • Lead camper registration, intake, and bunking processes, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. 

  • Serve as the “front line” for families, managing communications, customer service, general calls, and camp email inquiries. 

  • Produce accurate reports on enrollment, retention, and key program metrics to inform decision-making. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, providing excellent customer service and ensuring positive engagement with OSRUI and other URJ programs. 

Leadership & Training 

  • Assist with the design and marketing of staff positions, participate in recruitment and hiring, and support onboarding processes. 

  • Provide oversight and direct facilitation of staff training related to camper care, wellness, and MESSH priorities. 

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and implement engaging, mission-aligned summer and year-round programming. 

  • Engage with the URJ Camping System’s national cohort, contributing to regional and national projects and professional development opportunities. 

  • Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, ensuring OSRUI reflects and lives out Jewish values and commitments to racial equity, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Camper Care & Wellness Expertise: You bring deep knowledge of child/adolescent development, mental health, and camper care, and you know how to create systems that support the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of campers and staff. 

  • Enrollment & Data Management: You are detail-oriented and organized, with experience managing enrollment systems, camper data, and processes that ensure accuracy, efficiency, and a smooth experience for families. 

  • Relationship Building & Customer Service: You excel at building trusting relationships with campers, families, and staff, and you provide warm, responsive, and professional customer service in all communications. 

  • Leadership & Staff Training: You are a strong mentor and trainer who can prepare staff to support campers, facilitate impactful training sessions, and model inclusive, mission-driven leadership. 

  • Self-Management & Accountability: You are highly organized and able to manage complex logistics, including hiring, onboarding, compliance, and programs like the Cornerstone Fellowship. You ensure your work aligns with the camp’s and URJ’s broader goals. 

  • Collaborative Teamwork: You enjoy working as part of a team and recognize the value of collaboration. You approach conflict with a calm and respectful mindset, always seeking professional, positive resolutions that strengthen team dynamics.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to work on-site in Oconomowoc, WI for extended periods during the summer and at other peak times, with flexibility to work virtually at other times of year. 

  • Willingness to travel as needed for recruitment, URJ gatherings, and professional development. 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours during the summer camp season. 

  • Clinical or counseling background, licensure, or training in child/adolescent development, mental health, or wellness strongly preferred. 

  • 4+ years of experience in youth development, camping, education, or related fields. 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required; advanced degree in education, Jewish studies, nonprofit management, or related field preferred. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning new platforms (e.g., CampMinder, Salesforce, Zoom, Teams).
