Join Our Team as a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Pre-Op History & Physicals Clinic

Orthopaedic Associates of Maine | Portland, ME

Are you a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care? Orthopaedic Associates of Maine is seeking a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Pre-Op History & Physicals Clinic. This is a flexible, 1–2 day per week, on-site role—perfect for an experienced provider seeking a rewarding position without the demands of call, weekends, or surgical first assist responsibilities.

In this role, you will play a critical part in preparing our surgical patients for success by conducting comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, optimizing their readiness for surgery, and ensuring a smooth surgical journey.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct thorough pre-operative history and physical examinations in alignment with clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Perform surgical consent discussions with all patients to ensure they fully understand the procedure and are comfortable with next steps.
  • Review and assess medical records, labs, imaging, and diagnostic tests to identify potential perioperative risks.
  • Document all findings in a timely and accurate manner in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the perioperative team.
  • Educate patients about their surgical process, answer questions, and address concerns with compassion and expertise.
  • Collaborate with referring providers and specialists when additional information or optimization is needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all institutional and regulatory policies.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Maine license (or eligibility) and national certification (NCCPA or NP board certification).
  • BLS certification required; DEA registration preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience in orthopaedics, internal medicine, perioperative, or pre-op evaluation is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and clinical assessment skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinic environment.

Schedule & Benefits:

  • Per diem schedule: 1 full day or two half days per week.
  • No call, no weekends – enjoy a work-life balance while making a meaningful impact!
  • On-site role in a collaborative, supportive clinic environment.

If you’re looking to use your expertise to help patients feel confident and prepared for surgery while working with a leading orthopaedic team, we’d love to hear from you!
