Basic Function

The NextGen System Analyst owns the build, configuration, optimization, and governance of NextGen Enterprise EHR/EPM (and, ideally, NextGen Office) across a multi-site practice environment. You’ll partner with clinical, front‑office, and revenue cycle leaders to streamline workflows, improve quality metrics, and drive financial performance. This role is hands-on: part systems admin, part analyst/builder, part trainer, and part project manager.  This position requires independent judgment, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

System Ownership & Configuration

  • Maintain provider, practice, and location setups, including roles and security permissions.

  • Administer dictionaries and master files (problem lists, medications, orderables, fee schedules, payer/plan tables).

  • Oversee integrations for eRx/EPCS, eLabs, imaging, devices, and document/task management.

  • Manage related applications such as NextGen Mobile, Virtual Visit, Intelichart Portal, Patient Reminders, NextGen Fax, and Automated Document Delivery.

  • Maintain the legacy document archive.

  • Manage the NextGen quality reporting tool to support MIPS reporting.

Workflow Design & Build

  • Design and build chart templates, clinical content, order sets, visit templates, and smart tools to improve documentation quality and efficiency.

Interfaces & Interoperability

  • Manage interfaces using Mirth Connect/HL7/FHIR (labs, HIE, immunization registries, clearinghouses, EDI, radiology, devices).

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop operational and clinical reports using SQL, Crystal Reports, Power BI, or NextGen reporting tools.

  • Deliver dashboards for provider productivity, access, quality, and revenue cycle KPIs.

  • Support compliance activities with reporting and auditing tools.

Release & Change Management

  • Plan and execute upgrades, patches, hotfixes, and KBM/content updates.

  • Develop test scripts, manage UAT cycles, and maintain change-control documentation.

  • Maintain configuration logs, version matrices, and rollback plans.

Training, Support & Vendor Management

  • Create role-based training, tip sheets, and super-user programs.

  • Lead go-lives and optimization efforts.

  • Provide Tier-2/3 support, triage tickets, and escalate issues to NextGen/vendor support as needed.

  • Establish SLAs and performance metrics with internal teams and external vendors.

Data Quality, Compliance & Security

  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and downtime procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and privacy requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of hands-on administration with NextGen Enterprise EHR/EPM.

  • Proficiency with SQL and one or more reporting tools (Crystal Reports, SSRS, Power BI, or NextGen reporting).

  • Working knowledge of Mirth Connect or another interface engine, with HL7/FHIR experience.

  • Strong understanding of ambulatory clinical workflows.

  • Experience supporting regulatory and quality programs (MIPS/QPP, UDS/HEDIS) and addressing care gaps.

  • Proven skills in documentation, change management, and training, with the ability to translate clinical and revenue cycle needs into technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NextGen or Mirth certifications.

  • Background in data migration or EMR transitions (to/from NextGen).

  • Advanced Excel/Power BI skills for dashboard development.

Physical Requirements

  • Good visual acuity, hand-finger dexterity, and clear verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
