The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of all fleet and safety programs across all telecommunications operations, including field installations, tower climbs, and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role promotes a culture of safety, ensures optimal performance and maintenance of company vehicles, and leads accident prevention and driver training initiatives.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

Safety Management

·         Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies and procedures.

·         Conduct regular safety training and driver coaching sessions.

·         Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and other relevant safety regulations.

·         Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and implement corrective actions.

·         Maintain safety documentation, reports, and incident logs.

·         Lead safety committee meetings and collaborate with internal departments on risk mitigation.

·         Monitor and analyze safety data and trends to recommend preventative strategies.

 

Fleet Management

·         Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of all company vehicles.

·         Implement and manage preventive maintenance schedules.

·         Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, registrations, and service history.

·         Ensure compliance with vehicle safety standards, DOT requirements, and company policy.

·         Collaborate with vendors, mechanics, and leasing companies to ensure optimal fleet operation.

·         Develop and track key fleet metrics such as utilization, fuel usage, and cost efficiency.

 

Driver Management

·         Ensure all drivers are properly licensed and certified.

·         Conduct new driver onboarding and vehicle orientation.

·         Track and document driver performance and violations.

·         Enforce vehicle usage policies, including take-home vehicle protocols and GPS monitoring.

·         Administer disciplinary actions in line with company policies.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PROFILE 

·         Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred.

·         5+ years of experience in EHS, fleet management, transportation safety, or a related role with 2 years’ experience in utility, construction or related field strongly preferred.

·         Strong knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.

·         Proven ability to lead safety programs and manage vehicle fleets.

·         Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet/safety management software (e.g., Samsara, Geotab, Verizon Connect, etc.).

·         Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

·         Ability to respond to overnight accidents and/or injuries, providing timely support and coordination as needed.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

·         Understanding of federal, state, and city safety requirements, in particular OSHA.

·         Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.

·         Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers.

·         In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines and practices.

·         Experience in reporting and developing policies.

·         Experience in implementing OSHA training programs.

·         Ability to teach First Aid/CPR, pole climbing and other similar certifications a plus.

·         Spanish fluency a plus

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires both office work and field visits. Must be able to access job sites, climb ladders/towers (as needed), and work in varying weather conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

·         Travel required based on location(s) supported. Willingness to travel to field sites (25–50%).

Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery. Oral and auditory capacity enables interpersonal communication and communication through automated devices like the telephone.

The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office levels to loud levels due to equipment and machinery use

 

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS

·         Provide the resources, direction and audits to integrate safety into the management system.

·         Establish and maintain safety education and training program.

·         Periodically conduct safety surveys, meetings, and inspections.

·         Advise supervisors, employees, and the safety committee on safety policies and procedures.

·         Coordinate safety training for newly hired employees, along with employee’s manager and Human Resources.

·         Prepare and maintain safety records, analyses, evaluations and reports to improve the company’s safety performance and comply with all government agencies, insurance carriers and internal procedures.

·         Work with management, supervisors, safety committees and employees to maintain and implement new and ongoing safety programs and comply with recommendations provided by outside consultants, OSHA inspectors, and insurance companies.

·         Make available all necessary personal protective equipment, job safety material, and first-aid equipment.

·         Investigate and review all accidents with Human Resources, management, supervisors, the safety committee, and/or employees and ensure that corrective action is taken immediately.
