Fehlinger is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller & Head of Administration to lead the company’s full-cycle accounting and administrative functions in their New York, NY office. As the Controller and Head of Administration, you are responsible for overseeing financial reporting, forecasting, and compliance, while serving as the primary point of contact with our lender, bank, and insurance/benefits providers. As a senior leadership role within our organization, the Controller will work closely with executive leadership and play a critical role in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strategic insight across all financial operations.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and financial management, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on. While this is a leadership position, it requires a willingness to work at the detailed ledger level to ensure the integrity of financial statements, accruals, and reporting accuracy.
This position oversees a skilled bookkeeper who manages payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and monthly close processes. The Controller will ensure all financial statements are accurate, optimize processes and procedures, and act as a strategic partner to the Vice President while also collaborating closely with the President, who brings 30 years of finance experience.
As the Controller & Head of Administration, you are responsible for:
· Performing the monthly close including appropriate journal entries
· Preparing highly accurate monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cashflow statements) which adhere to GAAP
· Along with our operations team making sure that our inventory is correct which includes monthly inventory audits
· Along with our outside accounting firms, creating standard operating procedures
· Main contact with outside accountants, lenders and bankers
· Ensure documentation for benefits is correct and filed accurately
· Oversee all administration functions which are inseparable from the finance activities
· Manage commission reports
· Special projects as required
· Supports Sales, Service and Operations Teams by ensuring they have correct process documents and resources.
To be successful in the role you must possess:
· Proactive with strong attention to detail
· Strong analytical ability with the ability to detect errors
· Accounting degree is a must. Four-year college is strongly preferred
· 3-5 years’ direct experience in a similar role with a company
· Experience with accounting software (Quickbooks Desktop knowledge is a plus). We are beginning the process of migrating from Quickbooks Desktop
· Proficiency with excel
· Team player, detail oriented, self-starter and a “can do” attitude
· Ability and desire to learn quickly
· Ability to work independently
· Willingness to visit our Fairfield office 1-2 per month
· Legally permitted to work in the United States
· Fluent in English
· Some Covid vaccination history
· Valid drivers’ license

- Pay Range
- $150,000.00 Annually to $160,000.00 Annually
