Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Various departments, who will embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence.As a Certified Nursing Assistant , you will:
- Assists in the admission and discharge of patients to include: patient orientation to the room and unit, preparation of units, patient rooms and beds; assisting patient to the bathroom and/or bed and in; obtaining urine specimens; data collection on physiological parameters for use by the professional nurse in planning patient care; processing patient valuables; accompanying the patient to the Admissions Office; restocking the patient’s room.
- Records observations of patient’s conditions, the care provided and the patient’s responses. Reports to team leader or charge nurse and notes on patient’s record all observed changes and/or abnormalities in the conditions of patient to whom assigned. Answers phone on the unit at the desk when assigned.
- Performs the following nursing care activities according to established guidelines; surgical preps; enemas and douches; measuring intake and output, and vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration’s, weight, height, blood pressure); applying non-sterile dressings; obtaining specimens; ambulating, turnings, positioning and transporting patients.
- Performs personal hygiene activities for the patient to include grooming, bed making, cleaning and tidying bedside stand and over-bed table, displaying get well cards; arranging/discarding flowers, etc. Assists the nurse in caring for patients who require acute and intensive care and those using assistive devices; duties include obtaining equipment; making bed; turning and positioning patient; providing mouth care, exercise; cleaning environment.
- Delivers exceptional customer service by actively assuming responsibility for patients overall satisfaction to ensure the safety, comfort and well-being of patients in their care.
- Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable aesthetic environment. (includes cleaning equipment used in patient care and tidying surfaces used by nursing staff in the absence of the Unit Aide)
- Transports patient care equipment from one area to another, including assisting with the placement and assembling of such equipment.
- Attends and participates in unit, departmental, hospital and community educational programs, committees and other informational sharing activities.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.
Qualifications include:
- High school graduate or the equivalent (GED) and satisfactory completion of Nursing Assistant training program.
- Six months or more experience as a Nursing Assistant or nursing technician.
- Current District of Columbia Nursing Assistant Certification.
- BLS required.

- Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility
