LIVE PRODUCER, LOCAL SHOW

 

 

KERA is seeking a Live Producer to help create and deliver a dynamic, daily local talk show that captures the energy and curiosity of North Texas. Reporting to the Managing Producer, this position will be at the heart of shaping events and live experiences for a new daily talk show that connects our diverse and rapidly growing region with a multiplatform approach.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Live Producer will drive production of live events for KERA’s new daily talk show, Think and KERA’s newsroom, ensuring the program delivers smart, vibrant conversations that reflect North Texas in person, on-air and on digital platforms. This role will be responsible for production at events produced by KERA and with partners from idea to air: planning and booking segments and guests, directing in-studio and venue production and coordinating with hosts and reporters to create a compelling, relevant in-person events and segments for the daily show.

 

This is a FLSA classified non-exempt position, which is eligible for overtime. The position reports directly to the Managing Producer and is part of the News and Talk Team.

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Partner with KERA’s events team to plan, pitch and produce live events for KERA’s new daily talk show, Think and KERA’s newsroom that create compelling experiences and bring North Texas stories and voices to life
  • Work with hosts to create broadcast segments and digital content from conversations recorded at live events, including events hosted by partner organizations.
  • Book and prep guests for broadcast and live events — from community leaders to local influencers and subject-matter experts
  • Direct the live broadcast as needed: manage timing, coordinate with board operators and hosts and make real-time editorial decisions for both video and audio elements
  • Write and edit scripts, promos and web copy to extend show content across in-person, digital and broadcast platforms
  • Manage technology for RSVPs, contact lists, project management, content planning, cross-org communication, deliverables, data, reporting or other software needs to deliver desired outcomes from live events
  • Collaborate with the newsroom, arts & culture teams and external content partners to identify timely topics and recurring segments for digital, broadcast and live experiences
  • Coordinate production logistics including events, tape syncs, field recordings and live remote broadcasts
  • Build and maintain relationships with community sources, vendors, newsmakers, tastemakers, venues and cultural organizations
  • Provide post-show and event analysis and contribute to strategies for audience growth and engagement
  • Partner with digital and marketing teams to create companion content for podcasts, newsletters, events, experiences, merch and social media

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Two or more years of experience producing live events, daily programming or content, podcasts, or similar
  • Experience with live video or audio broadcasting, live events or in-person curated experiences
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify compelling stories for a variety of audiences and platforms
  • Proven skill in live production: segment timing, guest preparation, and quick decision-making under deadline pressure
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks on tight deadlines — the show must go on!
  • Excellent writing and video/audio editing skills; familiarity with broadcast and digital production tools
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office, SASS products, content or project management and production software (e.g., Adobe Audition, ProTools or similar)
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to interact and communicate diplomatically with external organizations, vendors, internal departments and diverse audiences
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, nights and occasional weekends

 

BONUS IF YOU BRING:

  • Experience with public broadcasting and live radio talk shows
  • Knowledge of North Texas issues, culture, and community leaders
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages spoken widely in North Texas

 

 

SALARY RANGE

$58,000–$68,000 annually depending on experience

LOCATION: 

This position is expected to work out of our Downtown Dallas office or offsite at events at least 80% of the time (equivalent to 4 days). Some night and weekend availability is required.
