BKV Corporation is a dynamic, value-driven company with expertise in upstream unconventional oil and gas investments and production. We believe our focus on visionary strategy, efficient execution, and high-performing teams is key to creating long-term sustainable value and growth.
BKV Corporation is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and base all employment decisions on qualifications, merits, and business need.
SUMMARYThe Senior Geoscientist, Portfolio Optimization, will provide advanced subsurface expertise across BKV’s energy portfolio. The ideal candidate will have experience in exploration and development in multiple onshore U.S. basins for both conventional and unconventional reservoirs. The candidate should have experience working in a fast-paced environment and making critical decisions with limited data sets. This role is critical in evaluating reservoir quality, supporting M&A and due diligence activities, and assessing subsurface risk while integrating data into portfolio decisions. The Senior Geoscientist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, data-driven insights into investment decisions. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Typical job responsibilities of the Senior Geoscientist within the POM team include:
1. Due diligence & Portfolio Optimization:
• Provide geoscience assessments in acquisition/divestiture due diligence, including reserves validation, prospectivity screening, and risked volumetric analysis.
• Support cross-functional evaluations with geologic, petrophysical, and spatial insights to quantify uncertainties and potential upside.
• Translate technical findings into business implications, supporting investment cases and portfolio strategy discussions.2. Portfolio & Asset Support:
• Provide geological input to reservoir engineers and commercial teams for field development, asset optimization, and capital allocation decisions.
• Conduct basic petrophysical evaluations to determine reservoir quality, porosity, permeability, fluid saturations, and hydrocarbon/CO₂ storage potential.
• Integrate well logs, core data, seismic, and production history into comprehensive reservoir characterizations.3. CCS Screening & Evaluation:
• Evaluate geological formations for suitability of carbon sequestration, including storage capacity, injectivity, and containment integrity.
• Assess risks related to CO₂ plume migration, pressure buildup, and caprock/seal integrity.
• Collaborate with facilities and regulatory teams to align CCS opportunities with technical feasibility and compliance requirements.
• Support portfolio screening of CCS projects, contributing technical insight into long-term risk and storage performance.4. Collaboration & Governance:
• Work closely with reservoir engineers, commercial analysts, and assets to ensure integration of geoscience data into portfolio optimization frameworks.
• Contribute to scenario modeling and risk registers, incorporating geological and spatial uncertainties.
• Communicate results effectively to senior leadership, presenting complex technical insights in clear, business-relevant terms.REQUIRED SKILLS
• Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geochemistry.
• Develop detailed geological maps, cross-sections, and 3D models to visualize subsurface structures and predict resource locations.
• Basic log analysis/petrophysics
• Experience in CCS site screening and subsurface risk assessment.
• Proficiency in geomatics tools (GIS, seismic interpretation, 3D geospatial modeling).
• Strong technical integration skills and ability to merge geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and engineering data into cohesive subsurface models.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to connect subsurface findings to portfolio value and risk.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills for cross-functional teamwork.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geoscience, or related field required; master’s degree strongly preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in geoscience roles, with significant focus on exploration and development.
• Experience in carbon capture and storage evaluations and subsurface risk assessments.
• Familiarity with unconventional reservoirs and basin analysis.
• Proficiency in industry software (S&P Kingdom, GIS platforms, seismic interpretation packages).
• Experience contributing to due diligence and portfolio-level evaluations is highly desirable.PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
• This position is based in downtown Denver, CO, at BKV Headquarters. Hybrid work will be considered.
• Some trips (up to 10-15%) may be required for site visits, conferences, or data room evaluations.
• Primarily office-based; requires use of computer systems, seismic interpretation software, and GIS applications.
• Occasionally extended screen time and collaboration in multi-disciplinary work environments.
