Job Purpose:

Procurement & Production Scheduling is responsible for assisting in the purchasing activities within the organization and the formation of the daily/weekly production schedule. Team members in this position maintain supplier communications, actively pursue new supplier opportunities, and assist in forecasting the procurement needs. Mid America Pet Food relies on the Procurement & Production Scheduler to insure that our production facilites have the ingredients needed, at the proper times, with a focus on providing our clients with the best pet food possible. This position requires an understanding of company policy, procedures, and values and reports to the Director of Procurement.   

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price and obtains approval from the Director of Procurement.
  • Provides purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Assists in the creation of the daily/weekly production schedules.
  • Research potential vendors and provide recommendations to the Procurement and Production Scheduling team.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to get potential vendors approved, and their products verified.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders as needed.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

Qualifications:

To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should have the following educational background and demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Financial acumen as purchasing decisions involve the implementation of financial skills such as accurately budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong negotiation skills and an understanding of supply chain procedures.
  • Understanding and ability to utilize computer systems and basic applications such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, etc.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

This is a largely self-directed role, requiring a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. The position operates primarily in an office environment but may involve periodic travel and require walking through our manufacturing plant.

This position will be required to adhere to all safety requirements at all times and in all work environments, including when on the manufacturing floor.

Specific physical requirements may include: 

  • Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.
  • Occasionally climbing ladders and stairwells.
  • Occasionally standing or walking for long periods of time (which may occur during plant walk-throughs or travel)
