Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented HR Generalist to support human resources and payroll operations for our growing charter school network. The ideal candidate has experience managing HR functions in a fast-paced educational environment and enjoys building efficient, people-centered systems that ensure compliance and consistency across multiple school sites. This position is remote but requires residency in the Charlotte area for periodic in-person collaboration and meetings.Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Employee Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR inquiries across the network.
- Administer onboarding, offboarding, and employee data changes in the HRIS.
- Support benefit administration and annual open enrollment.
- Maintain personnel files and ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws.
- Prepare employment verification letters, contracts, and other HR documentation.
- Coordinate employee engagement and recognition activities aligned with school culture and values.
Payroll Administration
- Accurately process biweekly payroll for multiple school locations through the PEO platform.
- Review timecards, reconcile PTO balances, and process adjustments or retroactive pay.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate reporting, deductions, and general ledger entries.
- Maintain compliance with wage and hour laws and assist with year-end tax forms (W-2, 1099).
- Monitor payroll and benefit deductions for accuracy and timeliness.
Compliance & Employee Relations
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and charter school employment regulations.
- Assist with employee relations issues, corrective actions, and documentation.
- Support audits, policy updates, and compliance reporting.
- Promote an inclusive, supportive, and mission-aligned workplace culture.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of HR and payroll experience; experience in K–12 or charter school environments strongly preferred.
- Preferred Experience: Prior work within a PEO (Professional Employer Organization) model.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Calendar) and HR/payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, or similar).
- Certifications: SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
