Contingency Planning Specialist II
Location: Princeton NJ or Washington DC
Contract: 1099/W2 NO CTC
Length: 18 - 36 months
Rate: Open to Discussion
Note: Requires 24/7 availability with weekend testing support averaging one weekend a month
Daily job responsibilities:
Support Contingency related projects, ad-hoc contingency certification, and site failure tests.
This effort includes preparing detailed recovery test procedures/scripts, maintaining IT DR-related documentation, and supporting IT Contingency design reviews.
Supporting critical incidents if contingency options are being considered.
Technical and Software Skills Required:- Moderate familiarity with mainframe and distributed platforms.
- Knowledge of Oracle DB, Middleware, Connect Direct, DB2, MQ series, Datapower, AIX, Solaris, Unix, network appliances and connectivity, webseals, DNS.
Key requirements:- Create recovery scripts/procedures 33%

- strong IT/application recovery experience (Manager specifically stated this)
Required Soft Skills:- High attention to detail, highly organized, self-motivated, demonstrated initiative, ability to communicate orally and written. Must be a team player.
Qualifications:- Requires significant knowledge of contingency planning functions, System business continuity requirements, and complex IT environments (mainframe platforms, distributed platforms) to support contingency strategies; thorough knowledge of disaster recovery concepts, disciplines, methodologies, and recovery options to ensure the effectiveness and application of disaster recovery tools and mitigation techniques;
- Strong knowledge of System business applications, recovery strategy and objectives, mainframe operation, software environment, and network recovery to plan and coordinate testing for potential and actual recovery events.
Skills required include:- Analytical, problem-solving, strong interpersonal, solid oral and written communication skills.
- Current knowledge of Business Continuity disciplines and best practices.
- Requires basic knowledge of Incident Management and Problem management processes and procedures and customer service skills.
- Advanced knowledge of customer business operating requirements and extensive experience with interfacing with customer and management at all levels.
- Significant knowledge of IT Infrastructure components and their interfaces.
- Intermediate knowledge of supporting software (IMS, MVS. Knowledge of inter-dependencies across all platforms and automation environments in the enterprise.
- Bachelors’ degree in Business or Information Technology or related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years Information Technology experience in large and highly complex automation environment along with Business Continuity Certification or equivalent experience.
- ITIL certified preferred
Responsibilities:- Plans, organizes and implements disaster recovery functions in highly complex and diverse automation environments across multiple locations.
- Analyzes highly complex issues related to business requirements and technical capabilities for disaster recovery.
- Assists with guiding organization in preparing for and executing disaster recovery exercises.
- Supports integrated IT Recovery Solutions that meet Business Requirements.
- Has responsibility to support recovery strategies, procedures, recovery testing, and maintenance across multiple business lines in automation configurations, while meeting defined recovery time and recovery point objectives.
- Ensures continuation of recovery viability through hardware, software, configuration, technology changes and transitions.
- Provide verification of automation recovery and viability on an ongoing basis to management, Business line customers, and ultimately to the customers of the Client.
- Manage Recovery Process according to established SLA’s - Serve as owner/coordinator of recovery procedure and process for large, complex, high availability automation environments spanning multiple platforms, locations, utilizing sophisticated and complex security and access infrastructure.
- Coordinate the actual execution of recovery procedures in support of system availability and business continuation as documented in Service Level Agreements. Assist with “return to normal” process following recovery activation.
- Assist coordinator of actual disaster event. Requires 24/7 availability with weekend testing support averaging one weekend a month
