     The Cardiovascular Technologist:
     
    • Assists in the pre-procedure preparation of patients scheduled for lab procedures
    • Completes sterile field set up and lab preparation of patients for procedures
    • Assists in the performance of cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures as well as other procedures assigned to the lab
    • Operates and maintains specialized equipment in conjunction with Biomed
    • Assists in laboratory activities for quality assurance and research support
    • Records and maintains daily log of procedures and assists in the maintenance of patient files
    • Completes billing sheets and submit to Revenue Control or Coding Clerk on a daily basis for timely billing of procedures
    • Operates monitors to measure and record functions of cardiovascular and pulmonary systems
    • Monitors and recommends radiation safety procedures
    • Orients new staff in the operation of the catheterization and electrophysiology lab equipment
    • Presents to lab within 30 minutes of activation of the STEMI pager, when on call
    • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.  The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive

    Qualified candidates will possess:
     
    • High school graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
    • Graduate of an approved school of Radiology Technology program with two (2) years’ experience as a Cardiovascular Technologist or Graduate of an approved Cardiovascular Technology program with one (1) year experience as an Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist.
    • High school graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
    • Graduate of an approved school of Radiology Technology program with two (2) years’ experience as a Cardiovascular Technologist or Graduate of an approved Cardiovascular Technology program with one (1) year experience as an Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist
    • ARRT Radiography registration (RT, RTCI, or RTVI) or Certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute (RCIS or RCES) required

    Experience with assisting and performing tech duties with the following procedures:
    • Coronary Angiography or Coronary catheterization
    • Coronary Angioplasty or Percutaneous coronary intervention / PCI
    • Closure of some congenital heart defect
    • Treatment of stenotic heart valves
    • Permanent and temporary pacemaker implantations
    • Electrophysiological studies such as AV node ablation
    • Rotablation of heavily Calcified vessels
    • Left and right Sided pressure studies
    • Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation
    • Coronary Angiography or Coronary catheterization
    • Coronary Angioplasty or Percutaneous coronary intervention / PCI
    • Closure of some congenital heart defect
    • Treatment of stenotic heart valves
    • Electrical Cardioversion
    • Left Heart Catherization
    • Right Heart Catherization
    • Angioplasty and Stent Placement
    • A.F.R.O. (Abdominal Femoral Runoff)
    Knowledge of basic medical and cardiology terminology

    Ability to operate and maintain hemodynamic monitoring systems, radiographic, intravascular ultrasound, and related
    equipment.

    Basic understanding of intra-aortic balloon pumps indications and functions.

    Solid understanding of basic electrophysiology and electrocardiography, including comprehension of basic cardiac anatomy, sinus and atrioventricular nodal function, mechanism of heart block and other conduction disturbances, and the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias as well as coronary artery stenosis.

    Proficient in the interpretation of basic intracardiac recordings.

    Familiarity with typical and atypical atrial flutter, AVNRT, accessory pathway properties, idiopathic ventricular tachycardia, and ischemic mediated arrhythmias.

    Familiarity with electrophysiology stimulators and recording systems.

    Proficient in the use of laser systems.

    Basic understanding of device based therapies and be familiar with the indications for temporary pacing, permanent pacing, and both external and internal defibrillation.

    Device interrogation using company specific programmers for implanted pacemakers and defibrillators

    Understanding of the pathophysiology of Neurocardiogenic syncope

    Basic understanding of cardiac physiology and pharmacology

    Familiarity with sterile techniques and understanding of proper EKG and defibrillator lead placement

    Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and maintain respect for privacy standards.

    Ability to exercise independent judgment and consistently maintain a professional manner

    Competence in both oral and written English

    Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials, and the general public
