Marketing and Communications Director

The Marketing and Communications Director is responsible for development, implementation and management of marketing and communications objectives and strategies to advance the Girl Scout brand locally and support the Council’s strategic priorities within the framework of Council policies, standards, goals, objectives and budget. This role is responsible for managing all internal and external messaging throughout the organization.  This position reports to the Chief External Affairs Officer and will manage Marketing, Communications, Digital Media and Visual Brand staff.

The duties of this positions include development and management of the Council’s annual marketing and communications plan and strategies to advance the Girl Scout brand locally, support girl, volunteer and donor recruitment and retention, increase program engagement and participation, generate goodwill within the community, manage department staff and resources, provide marketing and communications leadership and support throughout the Council, develop, implement and monitor media relations strategies, develop social media growth and reach strategies, provide direct oversight of Council’s social media activity, ensure alignment of marketing and communications work with brand, industry and quality standards, and ensure editorial, photography and videography coverage of key Council programs and events. The Marketing and Communications Director position will also manage brand, media and crisis-related training for staff, girls and volunteers as appropriate, proactively manage Council’s response to sensitive issues, update and maintain Council’s crisis communications plan and manage appropriate staff trainings, Assist CEAO with advocacy and community affairs, coordinate Council presence at community events, represent Council within the community as needed, evaluate and maintain reporting for key performance metrics to assess department’s effectiveness and monitor brand reach, and produce monthly, quarterly and on demand reports.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five plus years of management experience. Five to seven years experience evidencing competency in writing, editing, layout, design, multi-media production, budget development and administration. Knowledge of the principles of media relations, including best practices for pitching stories, writing and distributing news releases, conducting media events, and measuring the value of different media relations activities to the organization.

  • Must possess advanced Math, Language, Analytical and Reasoning abilities.
  • Computer and related peripherals including printer, scanners, mouse, etc; video camera, television, VCR; Camera and digital camera, video editing system, sound board, microphones, fax machines, telephone, calculator, copier and other miscellaneous office, art and multimedia equipment and tools.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of insurance.
