    The Director in Perioperative Services Department will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and is responsible for providing strategic leadership and administration in the areas of patient care, education, safety and quality in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice, utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development.

    The Director will promote a professional practice environment and develop and maintain collegial and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the institution to positively impact the business of clinical operations, nursing and patient care outcomes. These partnerships include ongoing collaboration with physicians, nursing, interdisciplinary, facility and organizational leaders. Responsibilities include all aspects of clinical operations, effective leadership strategies, employee engagement, clinician and patient/family education, customer service, patient safety, financial outcomes, and quality outcome management, operational excellence, uphold HUH policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance.

    The Director:
    • Collaborates with administrators, physicians, managers and interdisciplinary providers to facilitate planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategic plan and initiatives
    • Models & encourages professional practice that includes nurse autonomy, authority, accountability, empowerment and responsibility for self and staff within the department
    • Conducts purposeful counseling/coaching sessions with direct reports for purposes of correction and appropriate corrective actions, professional development of self and direct reports (i.e., percent of performance appraisals done in a timely fashion, one-to-one standing meetings).
    • Oversees development  & implementation of care delivery model, establishes clear expectations based on standards of care defined by their professional & regulatory organizations
    • Executes successfully the established plans and the services through measurement, monitoring, analysis, reporting, and adjusting the direction, allocation and utilization of available resources
    • Identifies issues to the Chief Nursing Officer and takes an active role in leading the process improvement initiative to address opportunities for improvement
    • Advocates for resources for safe delivery of patient care related to labor, equipment & facilities in specialty area with a global perspective

    Required Competencies Include:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the practice and scope of nursing, with the ability to plan and provide for the delivery of nursing services.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to cope effectively with stressful situations, time constraints and demonstrates sound judgment.
    • Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively and work cooperatively with residents, families, and other employees at all levels.
    • Proficient communication skills and the ability to effectively relate, present information, and respond tactfully to questions from patients, residents, families, administration, medical staff, nursing personnel, colleagues, other department supervisors and the general public.
    • Strong time management and organizational skills
    • Excellent managerial/administrative leadership skills including the ability to develop and implement strategic objectives, to motivate staff, and to effectively manage resources; comfort serving in a visible leadership role
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding patient and company proprietary information.
    • Ability to think critically and use a data-driven approach to evaluate information and implement timely decisions/recommendations that anticipate the cost/benefits, risks, and organizational impact of decisions

    Qualified Candidates Possess:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required
    • Master’s degree, or within 2 years of hire into position
    • 5 years as RN experience in Perioperative Services
    • 2 years as a nurse leader in Perioperative Services
    • Experience in systems-level leadership
    • Current District of Columbia state license required
    • BLS certification required
    • National Certification in leadership and specialty within one year of hire into the position
