Terra Technologies LLC is a rapidly expanding nationwide engineering and construction company.  Terra Technologies LLC is unique in the fact that it blends civil engineering with utility engineering to provide design support for roadway projects impacting facilities of some of the largest utility companies in the nation.

Job Summary:

The Field Engineer works in conjunction with the Directors, Engineers, and Project Managers to provide fielding support and data.  Field Engineers report field conditions for design engineers to accurately design the network. Responsible for aerial and underground data collection while validating a viable cost-effective path for engineering. The majority of fieldwork is conducted outdoors along public right of way, utility easements, and private property.

Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
  • Conduct site surveys, locates, and observing potholing jobs in the field.
  • Collect relevant pole information and accurately document existing measurements and placement. 
  • Gather aerial attachment heights and clearances, checking for violations.  
  • Conduct underground/buried cable layout surveys. 
  • Determine existing and ideal new locations for aerial and underground facilities and equipment.
  • Take pictures of job sites, pole conditions and other relevant structures and landmarks. 
  • Make hand drawn sketches of recommended engineering design while in the field or facility. 
  • Upload clear images, files, hand notes, and sketches, and edit for quality and cohesiveness. 
  • Make decisions taking into consideration value engineering and the impact on construction, installation, and future maintenance.  
  • Open hand holes to inspect facilities (substructure conditions, fiber placement, and condition) 
  • Inspect the work of construction contractors. 
  • At times, may be required to interface with customers/landowners.  
  • Daily travel to job site(s) using personal vehicle, traveling extensively throughout the Northwest.
  • Occasional extended travel out of assigned market may be requested.  
  • Assure that personal vehicle and tools are maintained to company safety standards. 
  • Recognizing safety hazards and performing duties in a safe manner.
  • Daily timesheet completion.
  • Other initiatives and duties as deemed appropriate by leadership for the continued success and growth of the company.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree or substitute relevant work experience (in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) preferred.
  • Knowledge of and relevant experience in fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in project management, project cost accounting, project financial controls, contract administration and contract management.
  • Requires strong math and analytical skills.
  • Superior customer service. Dedication to providing customers “White Glove Service”.
  • Strong project tracking skills.
  • Utilities process savvy.
  • Good interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communications skills required to coordinate with utility and power companies and report status and results.
  • Critical thinking skills; make assessments and provide solutions to problems.
  • Ability to be flexible, take direction and feedback with ease, including changes to process, workflow, schedule, and priorities.
  • Experience performing data management in cost tracking database programs with complete data accuracy.
  • Handle large volume workload with a high frequency of repetition.  Follow templates, process flows and standard operating procedures with complete accuracy and requiring minimal, if any, rework. 
  • Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to independently organize own work to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties.
  • Deadline driven, self-motivated, and technically savvy.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Superior time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace and changing telecom engineering and construction environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
  • 4+ years relevant experience in project coordination, project management, project financial controls, contract management, contract administration, telecommunications permitting/municipal permitting.
  • Engineering consulting experience; telecom or civil industry experience; small-medium sized construction projects $150k-$2mil experience.
  • Experience working with local utility and power companies (Avista, Inland Power, Pacific Power & Light, NJUNS, Alden One) obtaining permits for telecom projects.
  • Experience working on utility applications and supporting Outside Plant (OSP)/power projects.
  • Advanced computer skills using SiteTracker, Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Office Suite and ability to learn a variety of tracking and project management tools and software.
Physical Requirements
 
  • Ability to stand, stoop, squat and bend for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time and/or long distances. 
  • Ability to navigate through potential uneven walkways/terrain. 
  • Tolerant to extreme elements (heat, sun, wind, rain, snow, etc.). 
  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to lift 25lbs minimum, and potentially up to 50lbs.
