Job Title: Software Development Manager
Location: This role is Hybrid. You should be located within a commutable distance to our offices in Wilmington, DE / Baltimore, MD / Charlotte, NC / Dallas, TX / Chicago, IL or Evansville, IN. Proximity should be within 50 miles of these locations.


Position Overview:

  • Lead a high-performing agile development team in the Loan Originations Product Lane in predictably delivering high-quality software.

  • Work closely with business and technology partners to define roadmaps ensuring that software development efforts are aligned to strategic business priorities.
    Actively participate in engineering and day-to-day activities of your team.

  • Evangelize and facilitate adoption of best practices including agile and lean principles, DevOps, continuous delivery, and test automation.

  • Embrace and enable empiricism to propel the team forward by learning through experimentation, observation, and data-driven decision making.

  • Ensure our production software solutions are stable, reliable, and operating as expected.

  • Maintain an effective balance between functional and non-functional requirements ensuring a sustainable solution.

  • Mentor and guide team members along their career paths providing timely feedback while minimizing single points of dependency on your team.

  • Ensure effective and timely communication of development team metrics, regarding performance and impediments, to leadership in business and technology.

  • Collaborate across teams and functions on larger initiatives or on identified dependencies.

  • Help shape and improve our software practices fostering a culture of predictably delivering high-quality software.


Skills and Experience:

  • 6+ years of leading and managing distributed, high-performing, cross-functional engineering teams in an agile environment.

  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience with a B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related field.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience and proficiency with modern web application development technologies including Java, Angular, Ruby on Rails, React and Node.js.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience and proficiency with SQL, no-SQL, and in-memory databases. Postgres experience preferred.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience and proficiency cloud platforms, preferably Amazon Web Services.

  • Ability to think critically and strategically while collaborating effectively at all levels.

  • Competency to foster and build a culture of success, accountability, and teamwork.

  • Experience delivering software solutions using Agile, lean, and iterative methods.

  • Experience in guiding development of observable systems with robust metrics and alerts.

  • Ability to navigate in a nimble environment and drive success in unknown territory.

  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning.
