POSITION: Accounting Specialist

LOCATION: Saratoga Springs, NY (hybrid)

SUMMARY: Our client CARES of NY, Inc. (CARES), an organization that collaborates with and supports communities to prevent and end homelessness, is hiring an Accounting Specialist. While reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Specialist will reconcile accounts, prepare, and review grant vouchers, grant monitoring, grant spend down forecasting, assist with projecting future cash flows, and grant spending. This is a hybrid position based in Saratoga Springs, NY. ​​​​

CARES of NY envisions that all people have access to safe, affordable housing and the social support to remain housed. CARES offices are in Albany, NY, however, their customers and partner agencies are located throughout 37 counties in NYS.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Project future cash flows and grant spending.
• Reviews vouchers for grants and grant monitoring.
• Performs cash reconciliation.
• Maintain General Ledger.
• Prepare journal entries.
• Ad hoc reporting, such as assisting with grant spend-down forecasting.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
• Spending projections and grant budgeting

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required (Master's Degree and/or CPA a plus. Prior experience with government grants is a plus, but not a necessity.)
• 5+ years of experience in similar roles. Experience with Excel and general accounting principles. Prior non-profit audit experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and grant accounting.
• Able to use Microsoft 365 suite (Including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and advanced Excel skills).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks at once without missing deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Able to adapt to changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanor.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ready to jump into any task to learn and grow as an employee.
