Job Summary:
Our operating unit provides construction telecom services, and we are looking for an Assistant Controller to join our team.
The Assistant Controller will lead and participate on a team of employees whose primary tasks are recording both Construction-related Revenue, Expenses, Assets and Liabilities. Responsible for reviewing weekly financial information/ JE postings and generating the monthly financial accruals. Partner with Corp IT to ensure that we maintain data integrity in our financial and operational systems (MS D365, SiteTracker) and our data warehouse (Power BI).  Will ensure the seamless transfer of financial data into our data warehouse and forecasting systems.   Administer all accounting systems.  Generate ad hoc reports.  Manage the Budget and LRP calendar for construction operations.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the accurate recording of Revenue, Expenses, Assets & Liabilities.
  • Will become our Accounting Systems (D365) power user (Subject Matter Expert (SME)). Will assist on most system implementations to ensure overall accounting systems compatibility.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the Company’s software systems and assist accounting and other team members with the utilization and data flow through these systems.
  • Provide detailed review and act in a backup role for payroll and accounts payable.
  • Reviewing and posting weekly, monthly and quarterly revenue, expense, asset, liability and month end close related accounts.
  • Generating monthly, quarterly, annual accruals for asset, liability, revenue & expense accounts.
  • Ownership of the month-end close process, including but not limited to salary accruals, accrued expenses and adjustments, journal entries required for monthly financials, Billed & Unbilled Revenue and Work In Progress / Holdings, verify cash account balances to the balance sheet, review of financial statements, closing of intercompany AR/AP, fluctuation explanations, reconciling debt repayment schedules, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and /or review and approve account reconciliations (prepared by other team members/ resources), including bank/ cash, accounts and critical balance sheet asset and liability accounts.
  • In conjunction with the VP Finance, ensure adherence to applicable company and governmental policies, procedures and regulations during the processing and reporting of financial activities as they relate to Construction Operations.
  • Compile financial data and act as liaison to external auditors for financial plans, audits, financial statement compilations, and tax returns.
  • Issue and cancel company credit / procurement / divvy cards as needed, oversee credit limits, and resolve disputes.
  • Maintain leadership role with accounting team members, offering advice and solutions to issues that arise.
  • Liaise with Corp Treasury function, banks and other financial institutions requiring accounting information when authorized.
  • Maintain and revise the chart of accounts.
  • Potentially, supervise a team people.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration
  • 5-year minimum experience in a corporate accounting department with exposure to a broad range of accounting functions.
  • Strong analytical skills required and ability to interpret and explain results of analysis.
  • Thorough understanding of theory and application of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret all financial statements and reports.
  • Able to communicate effectively with employees of all levels.  Verbal and written communication skills to provide effective communication with all internal and external contacts both in routine and non-routine situations.
  • Excellent collaborative skills working cross functionally to facilitate issue identification, corrective action planning and execution & implementation.
  • Ability to assist in the development and implementation of major accounting sub-systems and provide for their ongoing processing and maintenance.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Well-organized with the ability to prioritize
  • Advanced skill level with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Dynamics
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in the telecom, utility, construction, and/or engineering industry
  • 10 years of accounting / finance experience with at least one year of experience with Power BI or equivalent, (i.e., Essbase, Tableau, etc.) is preferred but not required.
  • Professional certification is a plus
  • Experience in managing budget and long-range planning (LRP) processes/calendars preferred.
