At MMT – SYNEO / INTERFACE, our objective is to develop excellence in automation, machine design, material handling, and custom tooling. Each position contributes to the success of the company through accountability, responsiveness, and a solutions-oriented mindset. The Buyer will be responsible for planning and managing the replenishment process by purchasing materials that support production schedules. This role will interact with other departments to assure the execution of production plans through negotiation and purchasing of materials, execution of orders, logistics management, and utilization of analytics.
JOB DUTIES
Essential Job Functions:
The Buyer will provide reliable and timely support in the following functions:
  • Supplier Management:
    • Identify and recommend suppliers by investigating potential suppliers, researching parts, materials and outsourced service availability
    • Develop potential bidder lists and initiate formal requests for quotes and proposals
    • Evaluate and audit supplier performance, quality, and price
    • Interacting with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors
    • Maintain effective, ongoing, professional relations with suppliers
 
  • Purchasing:
    • Manage all purchasing activities including but not limited to:
      • Execution of orders and job requirements through MRP
      • Performing cost and price analysis
      • Negotiating contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best deals on behalf of the company
      • Quote and invoice reconciliations
      • Place point of sale and process incoming expense requisitions
      • Authorizing payments and maintain receipts, records, and inventories
    • Identify and select appropriate vendor(s) for necessary goods and/or services
    • Perform value-cost analysis for goods and services
    • Manage contract negotiation efforts and drive total cost reduction across assigned commodities and services
    • Manage the cost, quality, and delivery of commodities and services
    • Control and manage backorder reduction and cost savings projects
    • Manage the non-conformance items and vendor returns
    • Maintain part number set ups for cost, lead times, purchasing factors, and end-of-life notifications
 
  • Planning:
    • Collaborate on production schedules in a timely manner to meet customer demands and delivery goals. Conduct daily reviews of shortage and expedite reports to maintain inventory levels
    • Collaborate with Materials Manager and Machine Shop Supervisor to assure production and customer commitments are met
    • Expedite production or purchase orders when needed
 
  • All other duties as needed to assist the company in attaining its objectives
  • Internal cross-functional collaboration to accurately forecast demand and ensure Interface is sufficiently stocked for success

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position primarily involves office work but may need to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
SKILLS
  • Excel Skills (i.e., VLOOKUP) – required
  • Ability to interact and utilize ERP software
  • Experience in Epicor – highly desirable
  • GP Dynamics
  • Ability to work as a team player, supporting organizational goals and maintaining a CAN DO attitude
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Able to function in a dynamic, fast paced, environment
QUALIFICATIONS
  • EXPERIENCE – 5 + years related experience, preferably in an electronics or contract manufacturing environment
  • EXPERIENCE – Purchasing / Buyer
  • EDUCATION – BS/BA in Business preferred
  • CERTIFICATION – CPIM, CSCP, or CPM preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will work mostly in a controlled office environment, and may require sitting at a computer for long periods of time
