LOCATION: Syracuse, NY

SALARY RANGE: $180-200k

SUMMARY: Our client, Loretto, is hiring for a Vice President of Finance. The organization has a long history of providing comprehensive healthcare services and currently serves over 10,000 individuals across two counties.

As the #2 Executive in the Finance department and in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Finance manages some or all enterprise-wide Finance and Accounting functions, noted below. This role will be responsible for both day-to-day operations and long-term/ strategic financial planning, in support of the senior management team and Board of Trustees. The Vice President of Finance will establish budget and staffing levels for each Finance function, initiate and manage process improvements, and establish individual goals and mentor/ evaluate management-level Finance staff. This role will also act as primary resource to senior management teams in understanding financial metrics and requirements, and ensuring financial viability, of their business(es).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Accounting Operations

  • Produces and delivers monthly financial statements and reporting.
  • Manages the Accounts Payable & Receivable operations and staff.
  • Ensures adherence to FASB/ GAAP standards in all financial operations.
  • Produces and delivers required financial records and documents on a timely basis.
  • Monitors financial operational best practices and implements same as appropriate.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Manages corporate budgeting process.
  • Develops financial forecasts and models for business strategic planning.
  • Provides updates on status of financial results and ongoing initiatives; counsels management as appropriate on underperformance or required corrective actions.
  • Establishes financial benchmarks and analytics to measure results vs. same

Risk Management & Insurance

  • Evaluates risk and insurance requirements with external brokers; develops risk mitigation strategy with same
  • Manages insurance portfolio, including periodic review of required coverages.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and mandates.

Board of Trustees Support

  • Acts as primary management liaison with BOT Finance and Audit committees.
  • Prepares meeting agendas and facilitates meetings.

Treasury, Cash Management, and Financing

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with banks and other key financing partners.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual debt covenant compliance reports.
  • Monitors status of cash on-hand to meet current/ anticipated financial obligations.
  • Actively engages internal or external parties to modify payment terms and minimize impact of deficits or unanticipated cash obligations.
Tax Reporting & Compliance
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and auditable records of all business income and tax obligations.
  • Ensures tax payments and corresponding documentation are provided to appropriate entities on a timely basis.
  • Acts as primary contact with external auditors and taxing entities.

Financial Systems/ Processes

  • Evaluates and deploys technology solutions to optimize ease of use, accuracy, and timeliness of financial operations.
  • Modifies internal processes and procedures, consistent with best/ emerging practice.
  • Ensures staff are trained and proficient in the use of all systems tools.

Purchasing/ Procurement

  • Manages Procurement function and staff.
  • Review all contracts and purchasing agreements with General Counsel; ensures optimal terms and vendor compliance with same.
  • Initiates Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for major technology, service, capital, or other major purchases, in conjunction with appropriate sr. staff stakeholders
  • Establishes decision criteria and review process for RFPs; Coordinates selection process, SOW/ contract negotiations, and execution of final contracts.

SKILL PROFILE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or a related discipline; MBA preferred.
  • CPA highly preferred. Commensurate experience in the healthcare sector may be considered in lieu of CPA.
  • 10+ years' varied experience in accounting, ideally in a healthcare environment.
  • 5+ years managerial experience in a Finance function, including management of exempt level subordinate staff.
  • Proven experience working with banks, audit firms, tax consultants, CMS, and other external partners on complex financial arrangements & transactions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems & technology
  • Understanding of Medicare & Medicaid funding, billing regulations and procedures
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proven success in working in a team environment.
  • Advanced computer competency in use of accounting systems and MS Office, particularly data manipulation in Excel. Ability to learn new applications rapidly.
  • Ability to lead, guide and motivate others.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
