Role Overview
The Intellectual Property Legal Assistant will provide proactive coordination and administrative support across internal and external stakeholders for the timely development of the Intellectual Property Portfolio.

This role reports to Nexus Circular’s SVP, Business Development

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain timelines and summary list of action items and office actions to be addressed
  • Review for critical dates, ensuring timely response for correspondence to external legal counsel
  • Coordinate responses to office actions, scheduling meetings and corresponding with internal Nexus SMEs and outside legal counsel as needed
  • Perform basic due diligence, search databases for patent literature as appropriate, researching prior art assessments as needed and other support documents
  • Identify and respond to internal and external inquiries in a timely manner and seek feedback and follow-up as appropriate
Minimum Requirements:
 
  • Associate degree required, Bachelor degree preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in the Intellectual Property field
  • Experience in a law firm or similar professional services environment
  • Working knowledge of USPTO, EP and PCT patent procedures
    Working knowledge of intellectual property, patents and trade secrets concepts and principles
    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
Additional Qualifications:
  • Oil and gas and/or chemical background is helpful
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work effectively with people at all levels internally and externally
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving capabilities, as well as organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) certification beneficial, but not required

Jodie brings over 30 years of manufacturing leadership experience, having built and led 5 companies as CEO/President and 3 of those companies with an ESG focus.

Most recently, Jodie served as the CEO of GreenMantra Technologies, a privately-held early- stage advanced recycler of waste plastics to specialty waxes. Previously, she was President of Pinova, a PE-backed manufacturer of specialty chemicals from renewable resources.

Currently, she serves on the boards of NanoXplore (TSX) and Bartek Ingredients (PE backed) and is active with The National Association of Corporate Directors and The Women Corporate Directors.

Jodie earned degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware and holds an MBA in Finance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
