Position Overview:
The specialist, member development contributes to and executes plans to drive member recruitment efforts of Consumer Packaged Goods companies and Industry Partners, working collaboratively with the industry engagement team to achieve the association’s ambitious immediate and long-term membership goals. This role is the primary resource to prospective members. Reporting to the vice president, revenue & membership growth and working closely with organization leadership, this person will leverage internal and external relationships to generate new business for the organization by identifying prospective members, executing sales development outreach, and building relationships with new prospects. This role executes all growth-related pipeline generation, marketing, demand generation, forecasting, conversion rates, and special projects as assigned.

Key areas of responsibility:
Membership Recruitment
  • Manage CPG member prospect development, including monitoring daily CPG news to identify new prospects, recording outreach, leading and drafting follow up, and tracking company leadership changes.
  • Collaborate with organization leadership to develop a surround-sound approach to CPG and Industry Ally Partner company recruitment through innovative short- and long-term outreach strategies.
  • Routinely identify opportunities to build relationships with decision-makers at prospect companies. Draft outreach and correspondence on behalf of organization leadership.
  • Conduct extensive research on companies and executives in advance of prospecting conversations, prepare materials, work with and equip senior leadership for meetings.
  • Partner with marketing director to identify, craft and implement opportunities to articulate the value of membership through prospect materials, newsletters and the website.

Requirements:
Experience & Education:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required, ideally Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Marketing or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in development, fundraising, or nonprofit project management required.
  • Experience in association or nonprofit membership sales highly desirable
  • Experience at a nonprofit, trade association, media agency and/or in the consumer packaged good industry a plus.
  • Exposure to corporations as customers and stakeholders preferred.
  • AMS/CRM experience a plus.
  • Experience working with organization leadershp and “managing up” to keep timelines on track preferred.
