Girl Scouts of Western Ohio is seeking a dynamic HR Generalist to serve as functional support for the HR department, Chief People and Belonging Officer and Executive Team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly structured HR leadership team and positively impact the people and purpose functions. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated HR experience supporting various functions including recruiting, onboarding, benefits (FMLA and LOA) and employee experience.

This is a great opportunity for an HR professional with previous experience as a senior HR Coordinator or Generalist seeking an opportunity to grow their HR skillset and industry knowledge. This is an important role as the department aligns with new people strategies and initiatives that will continue to position GSWO as an employer of choice as we empower girls to become empowered leaders.

This is a full-time position with a hybrid schedule of both in-office and remote work.

As the HR Generalist, you will develop and execute recruitment strategies in support of organizational staffing objectives. Administer employee benefits programs and day-to-day activities of the Human Resources Department. Provide exceptional customer service by having a thorough understanding of the organization, personnel policies and practices, recruitment process, and employee benefit programs.

​​​​​​Your duties as the HR Generalist will include:

  • Partner with hiring managers to develop a specific recruiting plan for each position.
  • Maintain up-to-date job descriptions and job postings.
  • Create advertising programs to ensure high visibility with potential candidates, including posting with organizations committed to diversity and inclusion.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with colleges, universities, and community partners as a source to generate qualified applicants. Attend job and career fairs.
  • Manage the recruitment process to include screening resumes, conducting phone interviews, coordinating employment assessments, conducting employment references, and background checks, and extending verbal and written contingent job offers.
  • Act as primary human resources liaison to Outdoor Program Team Leader for annual summer camp recruitment and onboarding activities.
  • Responsible for HR administration of the employee life cycle from onboarding (i.e. I-9, Insperity Premier enrollment, benefits orientation, and payroll data entry, etc.) through offboarding (i.e. term letter, exit interview, timely data entry of termination date, notification of employee separation to internal and external teams, etc.).
  • Prepare monthly turnover statistics and quarterly recruitment metrics.
  • Benefit administration to include conducting new hire benefits orientation, answering employee questions, monthly census reporting, and open enrollment.
  • Coordinate short-term and long-term disability, FMLA, and ADA with the third-party administrator.
  • Organize employee engagement and recognition programs (e.g., holiday parties of service, etc.).
  • Review and respond to unemployment claims with appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims with the third-party administrator.
  • ​​​​​Take an active role in special projects planning and implementation to gain efficiencies for the Human Resources Department
  • Other duties as assigned.​​​

To be successful, you should have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or a related field preferred, OR equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in a human resource generalist role with proven experience in recruitment and benefits administration is required.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws affecting employment and employee benefits.
  • Demonstrated experience with various HR tasks including recruiting (reviewing resumes, selecting for interviews, offers).
  • Onboarding - creating a positive and welcoming candidate experience.
  • Orientation/Training - Experience with leading orientation (and preparing for orientation, all materials, welcome email, etc.), and leading new hire training. 
  • Experience with HR documentation (employee files, compliance docs, training) storage, filing and auditing for compliance.
  • Exit interviews, employee engagement activities, compiling trends and data for analysis, ability to recognize areas where continuous improvement efforts should be focused.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, applicant tracking systems, and project management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple competing priorities. 
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Other requirements as determined by Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.

Additional Eligibility and Qualifications
HR certification is highly desired. Must possess a valid state driver's license and functioning vehicle for work within the GSWO region. Successful completion of fingerprinting and a criminal background check as required by Ohio law.
