Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 plus competitive benefits package

The Role 

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) 6 Points Camps—encompassing Sports, Creative Arts, and Sci-Tech—are seeking a dynamic and passionate Development Director to contribute to our mission of nurturing confidence and character in young people from all backgrounds (including People of Color, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, interfaith, and other often underrepresented groups), inspiring them to emerge as leaders who positively impact the world and engage meaningfully in Jewish life. This role is ideal for a motivated, mission-driven, and strategic leader with experience in fundraising and nonprofit management. The Development Director will foster a vibrant culture of giving within the URJ 6 Points Camps, engaging alumni, parents, grandparents, community leaders, and organizations that resonate with our camps' core values. The Development Director will support development operations, build relationships, and craft and execute a comprehensive fundraising and development strategy that aligns with the mission of URJ 6 Points Camps, emphasizing inclusivity and community-building. 

What You Will Do 

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director of 6 Points Camps and is responsible for the following: 

Strategy & Leadership 

  • Develop and execute a robust fundraising and development strategy in partnership with the camp directors, full-time camp teams, and lay leaders. Focus on sustaining and growing the camps through effective fundraising efforts. Utilize data and market trends to refine approaches, increase philanthropic support, and boost program participation. 

  • With guidance from the URJ Development team and camp leadership, enhance and steward the URJ’s brand. Cultivate wider, deeper, and more diverse engagement through strategic outreach and communication efforts. 

  • Ensure that the camps’ fundraising efforts align with organizational priorities and reflect the highest standards of excellence. 

Relationship Management 

  • Partner with specialty camp directors and volunteer committees to cultivate relationships and build a robust pipeline of next-generation major donors. 

  • Cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals and organizations. Strengthen and maintain existing relationships while actively identifying new prospects among foundations and community partners to expand our support network. 

  • Provide guidance and support to lay leaders in their peer-to-peer solicitation efforts, empowering them to effectively engage their networks and enhance fundraising initiatives. 

  • Plan and implement a variety of fundraising activities and special events, including camp celebrations, board meetings, stakeholder gatherings, cultivation visits, and alumni events. Collaborate with lay leaders to ensure these events effectively engage, recognize, and honor donors and alumni, fostering a sense of community and gratitude. 

  • Assist in recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers for development activities. Ensure that volunteers receive comprehensive support and resources, empowering them to maximize their impact on fundraising efforts and fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. 

Development Operations 

  • Oversee the daily administration of all development activities, ensuring accurate acknowledgment and record-keeping for all donations. Maintain up-to-date donor records and manage the acknowledgment process to foster strong donor relationships. 

  • Administer the Donor Database (Salesforce), including configuration, query management, and report generation. Analyze database performance and recommend best practices for effective data management to enhance our fundraising efforts. 

  • Create comprehensive fundraising reports for lay leadership and meetings, offering insights into campaign progress and financial performance to inform strategic decision-making. 

  • Write, edit, and submit grant proposals and reports. Identify new grant opportunities that align with the camp’s priorities and ensure compliance with reporting requirements for all grants. 

  • Write and prepare materials for development-related communications, including newsletters, emails, appeals, campaign materials, and website content. Collaborate with Camp Directors and/or vendors for design, printing, and distribution to effectively reach our audience.

  • Passion for URJ & Camping. Demonstrate a deep passion for the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) and camping, inspiring stakeholders, donors, and colleagues through dedicated and enthusiastic work. Communicate effectively with others, sharing context and asking insightful questions to understand diverse perspectives and foster meaningful connections. Utilize relationships, storytelling, and community engagement to motivate and inspire others, enhancing support for the URJ’s mission and initiatives. 

  • Data Management & Administration. Experience in using data management systems to ensure accurate and efficient handling of donor information and fundraising activities. Skilled in fundraising software platforms (e.g., Salesforce) for managing donor records, tracking donations, generating reports, and analyzing data to support strategic decision-making. Capable of tracking grant funds, monitoring expenditures, and providing detailed reports to funders. Ensures accurate documentation and timely reporting to maintain positive relationships with grant-making organizations.

Utilize effective time management tools to help with setting and meeting deadlines. Ask for help and support as needed. Maintain regular, open, honest, and respectful communication.   • REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience or willingness to prioritize URJ Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQIA+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities. Willingness to seek out voices from diverse backgrounds to build ideas and make decisions. Prioritize outreach to multi-racial, marginalized communities. Plan and budget through a REDI lens using URJ resources.
