Your New Job

Job Summary:
Our operating unit provides telecom construction services, and we are looking for a Coax Splicer to join our team.
Coax Splicers perform tasks associated with the aerial and underground construction and splicing of coaxial cable for cable television and fiber optic communication systems.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task.
  • Repair or splice in new line as needed to complete the testing and certification of the project.
  • Place and install required coax cable when necessary, to complete assignment.
  • Install all passive and active devices, pedestals, and vaults and coax splice cases required to house CATV equipment per customer requirements.
  • Test Coax-RF lines for balanced signal between points-continuity and fault.
  • Load required tools and materials on boom trucks, vans, pick-up trucks, and drive to work location.
  • Read and understand site plans, maps, diagrams, designs, and prints needed to support project.
  • Pull Coax through existing duct package, pull cable through conduit either manually, blowing, or mechanically, and splice and activate underground and aerial lines.
  • Optimize new Nodes and splice in node splits to reduce capacity.
  • Utilize RF Meters and TDR accurately.
  • Learn how to safely utilize bucket trucks or climb utility poles to place cables on poles per system design.
  • Close a project by completing production sheets, verifying proper levels after activation, adjust and troubleshoot, as necessary.
  • Ensure that all work considers the safety of the customer, public and compliance with all governmental orders.
  • Ensure proper safety techniques and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Maybe required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Coaxial Cable Splicing: Ability to splice coaxial cables with precision, ensuring minimal signal loss and proper connections.
  • Signal Testing and Troubleshooting: Proficiency in using equipment like spectrum analyzers, OTDRs (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers), and TDRs (Time-Domain Reflectometers) to test signal strength, identify faults, and troubleshoot issues in the cable network.
  • Cable Termination: Skill in terminating coaxial cables with connectors (e.g., F-connectors, BNC connectors) following industry standards.
  • Knowledge of Coaxial Cable Types: Understanding of different coaxial cable types (e.g., RG6, RG11) and their applications.
  • Understanding Signal Flow: Comprehension of how signals travel through coaxial cables and the impact of splicing on signal quality.
  • Blueprint and Schematic Reading: Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and network layouts to understand cable routing and splicing requirements.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in the telecom, utility, construction, and/or engineering industry
  • Endurance: Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor and indoor settings, often for extended periods.
  • Climbing and Lifting: Capacity to climb poles or ladders and lift heavy equipment as required by the job.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Able to work both individually and in a team environment.
