RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the organization’s safety and risk management program, including OSHA and DOT compliance, site safety audits, and safety training. Helps create a highly visible safety culture and promotes a safe and healthy workplace environment for Goodwill team members and the public. Provides feedback and supervision of CARF activities related to health and safety compliance.
DUTIES:- Maintains safety standards and initiatives that improve performance, reduce risk, mitigates incident frequency and severity, and meets regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ensures safety compliance efforts of the company meet agency accreditation standards (includes CARF, OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements).
- Researches and keeps abreast of new government safety standards as well as internal safety results and suggests policy and/or procedure change recommendations to Vice President of Logistics.
- Supervises fire alarm systems to ensure functionality and coordinates with assigned business units to ensure fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems receive monthly and annual inspections, licenses, and are prepared for surprise audits.
- Partners with Operations to perform regular site inspections at various locations to perform safety observations for compliance with State and Federal safety rules and regulations.
- Identifies potential safety and compliance issues and determines appropriate corrective actions.
- Manages monthly checks for AED machines and First Aid kits through coordinated building walk throughs.
- Organizes and executes safety meetings.
- Partners with HR to manage and ensure the accurate reporting of information to workers’ compensation.
- Partners with Logistics and Operations to manage the claims process program and ensure the accurate reporting of general liability, commercial auto and property claims.
- Ensures OSHA compliance, executes reporting, manages incoming reports, responds to inquiries and investigations.
- Serves as the primary safety training administrator and verifies completion of assigned monthly training courses.
- Performs health hazard evaluations, to identify and evaluate risk within the work environment, and assist in identifying solutions to enhance safety.
- Manages quarterly emergency drills and documentation at assigned locations.
- Generates case metrics, manages case reporting and completion in safety reporting systems.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least three (3) years of experience in a safety-related role.
- Ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize multiple projects to meet critical deadlines.
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and other relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with fire safety systems, including managing inspections and audits for fire alarms, extinguishers, and sprinkler systems.
- Familiarity with performing risk assessments and conducting safety inspections.
- Valid driver’s license to conduct site visits and inspections as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a retail setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety related field and at least three (3) years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in retail, logistics, operations, or manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience with safety training administration and regulatory compliance audits.
- Strong demonstrated ability to perform risk assessments, conduct safety inspections, and implement corrective actions.
- Certification in safety-related discipline(s) (e.g., OSHA 10 & 30-Hour).
- Experience in managing compliance with Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation standards.
- Strong proficiency with fire safety systems, including managing inspections and audits for fire alarms, extinguishers, and sprinkler systems.
- Strong demonstrated proficiency in using safety management software and reporting tools.
Physical Demands:
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasional ability to lift and carry objects such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, or other safety equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access and inspect safety systems or equipment in confined spaces or hard-to-reach areas.
- Vision and Hearing: Must be able to read printed materials, computer screens, and safety inspection reports, and to perform detailed inspections of safety systems, equipment, and work areas. Good color vision is required to identify hazard warning signals and assess the condition of safety indicators (e.g., fire extinguishers and AED machines). Must be able to hear safety alarms, communicate effectively in noisy environments, and conduct safety training and emergency drills.
- Communication: Must be able to communicate verbally with employees, management, and external inspectors. This includes leading safety meetings, conducting training sessions, and coordinating emergency drills. Must also be able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to convey safety protocols, incident findings, and recommendations.
- Travel and Site Visits: Must be able to travel 75% of the time to different store locations and other RGI facilities for inspections and meetings, including evenings or weekends, depending on the urgency of safety matters or emergency situations.
Working Conditions:
Depending on the work site, may be exposed to various environmental conditions, including hot, cold, humid, or dusty environments. May occasionally be exposed to loud noise levels or hazardous materials while conducting inspections, adhere to proper safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
