The Outdoor Experience Manager is responsible for the management of outdoor program facilities that allow girls and volunteers to have ample opportunities to learn about the environment, nature and adventure, based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Implements and maintains the council-wide property plan that facilitates council goals and objectives for outdoor programming of memberships. Works with Volunteer Experience and Community Engagement to ensure that girls and volunteers in all pathways have access to high-quality outdoor experiences. Promotes marketing and communication strategies to support outdoor experience opportunities leveraging Council and other resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned.
- Provide risk management oversight for all outdoor experience initiatives in compliance with safety and ACA standards, GSUSA and GSSJC guidelines, local, state and federal laws, and other relevant governing or advising bodies.
- Develop and execute assigned strategies, which may include delivering high-quality year-round outdoor experiences that support girls and volunteers throughout the Council leveraging girl and volunteer involvement in the planning and execution, as assigned. Duties may include: recruiting, hiring and training volunteers and seasonal staff; developing and implementing a recruitment plan for staff and a promotion plan for activities; and ensuring the programs are resourced to operate safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Girl Experience, Volunteer Experience and Community Engagement to ensure that girls and volunteers in all pathways have access to high-quality outdoor experiences.
- Willingness to obtain trainings and/or certifications relevant to assignments such as but not limited to: Riflery or Archery Instructor, First Aid, CPR and AED, Challenge Course Facilitator, Equitation and Aquatics, etc.
- Collaborate with Communications to develop and implement marketing strategies to ensure increased participation in outdoor program opportunities. Implement high-quality marketing and communication strategies to support outdoor experience opportunities leveraging Council and other resources.
- Support implementation of Girl Scout program opportunities that are volunteer-led, age-specific and content appropriate to meet the needs of current and prospective girl members.
- Collaborate with key volunteers, community partners and topic experts to develop and offer unique state of the art outdoor educational opportunities that utilize the national program portfolio, are based on the GSLE, respond to the needs and interests of girls, and support the membership growth plan. Strengthen volunteer delivery of outdoor program opportunities through ensuring integration of the National Program Portfolio, the three keys and three processes.
- Promote Girl Scouting outdoor experience opportunities throughout the Council to enhance the understanding and appreciation of Girl Scout program, and increases the visibility of Girl Scout opportunities/programs for girls using non-traditional methods.
- Assist with the development of budgets and monitoring of cost centers as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B. S.) from a four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be proficient with Council technology platforms, Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word), online resource and knowledge sharing tools, etc.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of insurance. First Aid, CPR/AED. ACA standards certification and other outdoor program certifications. Annual child abuse prevention certification.
- Ability to work from home, as needed, to include high speed home internet access, accessibility to a non-distracting and uninterrupted space with adequate lighting and ergonomically adequate work-space.
